Re: Hot scale helicopters

Have you cut a hole in the fuselage under the engine
Doesnt tell you to do this in any of the instructions but you really do need to do this in the 30/50 size heli's

Re: Hot scale helicopters

Hi,there is a hole in fuselage forward of cyl head for glow plug access .I am pretty sure this is an overheating problem though.i thought about putting a forward facing scoop on access hole to force air in the fuse.Another question, what starter do you pilots reccomend for 60 - 90 size engines especially A.B.C type engines.Just fitted a new 68 abc eng in my hughes and my century geared starter wont even look at it.(brand new)

Re: Hot scale helicopters

After a lot of problems with my new OS cspec viper head, I went through three new std. starters in two weeks, I ended up with a dynatron 24volt on a pair of 12volt 12mh batteries, these were off a powered wheel chair i got them new. £50 the starter was £69 but it starts all day and when i had problems with set up at the start the batteries never ran down. Now its run in I think a standard might start it but its so easy with the dynatron I dont think about going back to a little starter.

Re: Hot scale helicopters

Hi 3D,think i will have to bite the bullet and get dynatron. To be honest most of the cheaper starters arnt up to much.Just posted some pics of hot airwolf and veteran Graupner.Like playing with these old helicopters as they are harder to keep in the air, just modifyed clutch to hirobo components as original parts obselete now.Spent hrs getting this one flying again.Credit to Malcolm for keeping it in one piece all these years.

Re: Hot scale helicopters

nice one..... yes i could not believe the power and compression of my os cspec PS viper at one point i had a power drill on it and after about six startups i screwed the 5mil bolt that held the chuck on in half and the chuck fell off.and as yet i have not sorted that one. but the dynotron is great .you have to be careful not to ever get the engine flooded or compression locked the power you are putting through it will bend stuff inside. i use fuel pipe locks and always start it dry then after it spinning i open the locks and let the fuel through. and as soon as i stop the engine i lock off the fuel line again. one more thing i do that i have found that works with mr raptor, i have a youngblood muscle pipe on it and they let fuel oil back on the head if you let it stand, so i lay the raptor on its side, on the pipe and when i am ready to start it, put it back on the skids and away she gos first time. I also fill through the clunk line by using a filter to brake the line with line locks each side. hope you are getting all this i feel a photo coming on showing how i do it

Re: Hot scale helicopters

This ABC engine is even tight as hell with the glow plug out.Never had much to do with this type of engine.I am assuming it will be ok when its run in.I thought the os90 was hard to start but this is a whole new ball game,These Heli,s certainly teach you something about perseverance and patience. Is anyone doing mortgages for heli spares yet.Regards Mike.

Re: Hot scale helicopters

no but a second job helps but like said about the be aware that if you flood get the plugs blow it clear with the starter then then start with glow on and no fuel going through and as it fires give it the fuel
