New Sceadu Evo

Hi Guys (and maybe Gals )

I have just finished building a new Sceadu Evolution, after my Shuttle met the terra firma quite hard. The build went ok, but I have a problem. The pitch of the main blades seems to be to harsh for a semi beginner like me. They seem to be -9 at low and +9 at high. Am I right in saying that a setting of -1 low to +9 high is about right for a beginner?

The Shuttle was so easy to set up, but this is whole new ball game!!

Oh yeah, if it matters, the engine (OS32SX-H) is well run in, idles reliably, and throttles up well.

Any help or advice regarding the set up of this heli is greatly appreciated

Cheers

Matt

Re: New Sceadu Evo

Jimco here" I fly raptors, and the beginner set up calls for about what you are saying., If you are not into farword flight, you don't need negative pitch. Raptor 30 calls for 0, 6 hover and 12 max for full throttle. Problem with neg pitch, is the old throttle chop. We have all done it, in fact, I did it today on a 50, in bad wind, just had brain fade. Try what you have and don't forget, don't chop the throttle. !!!!!!!

Re: New Sceadu Evo

Hi Jimco.

Thanks for the advice.

Well, I took it out today, although I must admit, the weather is against me! Here in Dublin Ireland its overcast and blowy, with an easterly at about 15mph. I cannot believe how different this bird is to the shuttle plus that I learn't on. It is a heavier machine, even with a 30 sized lump in it.

I placed it nose into the wind, and lifted her off the deck. Wow is all I can say . At this point the shuttle would start moving all over the shop, especially in the wind, but the sceadu just sat there. Open the throttle a nats bollock more, and got her into a hover at about 20 ft. Still, she sat there.

I think I can say, that the blade pitch I was worried about has turned out to be a non event. The sceadu performed beautifully on her first flight, and needed next to no trimming (Yay!!). I will have to remember not to drop the throttle too quickly, or its new undercarriage time!!

Thanks for the advice

Matt

Re: New Sceadu Evo

Glad it worked for you. Sounds like funs a coming. I keep all of my raptors set at -9 , +6.+12. That -9 eats me up some times. Am replacing landing skids on the 50 today. Total brain fade, chopp[ed the old throttle. Plank flying days are still present in the cranium. Later, Jimco

Re: New Sceadu Evo

yupper , the old throttle chop was my downfall too, but thats what i was trained to do all the years with fixed wing. FMS really helped get that left appendage whipped into shape !!!!

Re: New Sceadu Evo

Since I'm not doing any 3d, and don't expect that I ever will, kinda like scale flying, much cheaper, I'm going to reset mine to no more than -4. Had I been there, I would not have slammed it into the dirt. Been flying it for over 4 months, and this was the first brain fade. Not much money, but oh , the agrivation. Had to resort to my 30, still fun, but nothing like the 50. Keep up the good work. Later, Jimco

Re: New Sceadu Evo

Dillon .... I have my Hawk set up on -9 0 +9 after reading up on something called the Mas technique....try www.rotory.com Mike Mas is one of the pioneers of 3D flight...amongst other things....a real Guru on model Helis.

Hes a modest Guy too...post on His site and see if He will give you a copy of the Mas technique....these articles cover all sorts but if you explain the pitch issue you might get a copy sent to you...it explains in depth about the pitch ranges etc.

Personally I have found this set up very very good...it changed my Hawk from a good heli to a great heli.....the added bonus is that the head speed doesnt diminish as you lower the collective...especially when its windy and all the heli wants to do is climb.....arrrghhhh...that used to annoy me

The Heli will come down 'positively' with good headspeed being maintained...You have probably realised this by now.

The Sceadu is a nice heli, mine is new and still unflown as it needs kitting out....its the 30 size one....though I want to fit an OS 37 with some decent servos and a good gyro........short of cash at the moment and about to change jobs...so everythings all up in the air at the moment.

The 50 size Evo is very popular, might get one one day......though I am still enjoying the Hawk (Century Hawk Sport...fitted with OS32) Century make a 50 size 'Falcon' which gives a big 'bang for buck' ie very good value.......ahhh its soooo difficult...so many helis to try...so little cash...so little time

Jimco: I got your e mails...bear with me as I will surely send some Hawk pics soon

Rob

Re: New Sceadu Evo

Been going to do the same, but I'm in the air-conditioning business, and Texas has suddenly gotten into the 90's, Everyone is panicking. Got home early today, 6:00. On top of that, my refer is cutting up, and have to fix it tonight. Always something. Setting up that Raptor 30 that I bought for a friend, last month. He couldn't come thru, sudden divorce, so sold it to another bud from fly field. Be working on it tonight, along with my crippled 50. Sure did hurt to smack it in. I think I'm going to get off the -9. Don't invert anyway. Be on later tonight, got to hit the kitchen and make mama happy. Later, Jimco
