drifting left

i have a heli-max axe cp. my problem is that no matter what i do my heli always seems to drift to the left. i have good control of the tail rotor but regardless of what i do, as soon as i get it in the air it will go left. i have tried everything from setting the trim to shimming under the gyro to try to fool the computer. any advice would greatly be appreciated. thanks

Re: drifting left

Welcome to the forum and the most addictive hobby you will ever encounter.
The drift your describing is a naturally inherent trait of all heli's that have a tail rotor even the real ones. The tail rotor is used to counter the torque effect of the main blades that want to twist the hole heli around with them. The side effect is that the tail blades create sideways thrust that will push the heli. You will need to learn to counter this with a little right bit of right aileron at liftoff and once up you back off. Actually you will need a little bit of right tilt to the rotor disk to maintain a stable hover.

just wanted to say thanks danimal. your 1 post has answered the question i have been asking for nearly a month now. i had my first stable hover last night for about five seconds. now i have the knowledge and confidence to take it outside. do you or anyone else know of any books or videos for the beginner. this is definitely a hobby that i can get into and would like as much info on how to do things right. thanks again

Thumbs up Re: drifting left

Hey that's grate. 5 seconds is a good start. Just take your time and practice, practice, practice. Don't push to far to fast or it may get pretty expensive. One of the best things to read I've found to help a new pilot get up and fling with some level of confidence is Radd's School of Rotary Flight. http://www.dream-models.com/eco/flying-index.html.

This single most helpful training tool for any heli pilot old and new is a flight simulator. This is the one thing you'll hear over and over from everyone.
Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.
