4 ch vs. 6 ch and other dumb questions...

What extra maneuvering abilities are had by going ot 6 channel. I have no experience with RC helicopters, but was a decent RC car racer back in the day. My mechanical ability is well above average. (rc cars, bikes, real cars, associates in mech engineering) so I'm not too put off by the 6 channel setup, just wondering what the differences are.

I'm thinking I'd like to go with one of the small "indoor" models for low cost and cause I like the idea of a smaller model. The dragonflies seem to have a lot of issues, what's a more premium model? Should i just upgrade a dragonflly? I'm thinkin I'd like to keep the cost under 400 complete, is that reasonable or will I run into constant problems?

sorry if these questions are dumb. I just came across some electric helis the other day, and I'm amazed how low the prices are, and i'm just tryin to learn a lot now.

Re: 4 ch vs. 6 ch and other dumb questions...

4 channel helis are fixed blade pitched machines. 6 ch tend to be collective pitch machines.

Fixed pitched helis are simpler and lower cost than collective pitch machines. Collective pitch machines are more wind tolerant, and able to do acrobatics that require negative pitch.

I have a fixed pitched Dragonfly. It flies pretty well out of the box. It's light weight lets it bounce most of the time instead of breaking. It does not fly in the wind at all. The stock chinese made radio is absolute junk.

Personally, I wish I would have gotten a collective pitch micro heli instead of a fixed pitch. Something like a Hummingbird CP or a Blade CP. They are more expensive compared to the Dragonfly series, but at least you are getting a radio that works instead of the Dragonfly stock radio.
