After flying 30's, the first time I fired up a 50, I swear, I could feel the ground shake. Then, I got the 60, and same thing, quite a jump from one size to the other. If you have been flying electrics, do get some help. You will save many dollars in the long run. Crash costs on nitro's can get out of hand, if you let em. Don't be bashful about training gear either. Until you can trim it out perfect and bring it into a 3 or 4 foot hover, without being nervous, don't even think of taking off the wheels. I'm past the training gear stage now, but it took almost a year to be really at ease. Later, Jimco

Hi Jimco
Thanks for the info. It is indeed appreciated. About help = there isn't any help around to be found. No clubs within 60 miles.
What would you use for training gear?? Have it on the electrics, but they wouldn't support the weight of the 50. Advice please
Thank You
Barry

Re: Which helicopter?

Hey Barry, good morning, 10"20 my time. As for training gear, go to local hardware store, pick up 2-half inch by 4 ft. dowel rods. preferable oak wood. Get a pack of whiffle balls. Drill the balls on one side, slide on to dowels and insert screw, with washer. leave loose enough for balls to turn on the rods. Will be handy when driving the heli on the ground. As for training, the manual with the heli will give you the basic setups. Just remember. All linkage setup must be what is specked in the manual. Be precise on all measurements. Makes a big diff. on nitro heli's. Next, blade tracking and blade balance is very important. Don't even think about mounting a set of blades, until they have been perfectly balanced. Will have drastic effect on gyro operation. On initial spool up, check the blade tracking, and correct b4 thinking about hovering. Engine tuning is also critical. A fat running engine can induce inputs to the gyro to the point that tail control will cease to function due to seeking. Most of my nitro engines tune up to correct setting at about one and one half turns out on main needle. This can vary one quarter turn, according to nitro content of fuel, and weather conditions. Now, the most important item on that heli, the battery. I do not fly with less than 3000 mah, subC, nimh. If you ever lose a battery on a nitro heli, you will understand why. I had a battery failure on a raptor 30, in nov. 03. Heli lifted of , at 1 ft. high, went full throttle, rose to about 5 ft high, turned full left, and flew into out club house. Lucky for me, no one was in the way. Picked up parts and pieces for damn near an hour. Problem turned out to be 600 mah, nicad. Had dropped to approx 4 volts. Had only been hovered for about 2 minutes , b4 accident. On a heli, you are working 5 servos, all the time, not like planks, so battery drain is quite different. Another thing, since you have been flying electrics, you probably have one or more gyros, laying around. Don't even think about using em on the nitro, unless they are GY 401, or better. Your servos for pitch, elevator, and aileron, should be at least 90 oz. torque, throttle doesn't matter, Tail should be 9253, or 9254. Thats about all that I can input today, with knowing what radio you will be using. Later, Jimco

Re: Which helicopter?

Sorry about that, I just ran thru the rest of the post and found your heli specs. Sounds like a winner to me, price was really right, and the equipment is excellent. No upgrades to do. Get in touch , when you get it , send some pics.

Hi Jimco

No = no CA. But it did take a crowbar to get his hands loose. And a few sand bags to pick-up the mess in his pants. At least = it would if it was me. LOL

Barry

Well as the title of this thread goes... willing to spend $180 shipped...

I have this heli in mind but is there an alternative for the same price?
