Re: Which helicopter?

I had a Honeybee CP2. Was not a bad bird overall, but the main limitation with this heli in my opinion is poor electronics and I don't like the 3in1 receiver. I could have gone seperates with that heli and probably enjoyed it for another 6 months or a year, but eventually you will outgrow it if you stick with it. So in my opinion go seperates even with the HBCP2 so you could use the equipement with your next heli. Acknowledging I'm a newbie having no business giving any advice, that is my 2cents. I also agree, buy the best quality you can afford, it will save you money in the long run.

Re: Which helicopter?

HI Nu2,
Thanks for the info, I'll check them out. I looked at the previous heli suggested, the SJM 400II, but I can't find them local here in Georgia. The A-plus also looks good, but it ships from china, and shipping is $50.00, really worry about parts.
Both of them require extra electronics, which puts me to the price of a Trex.
I'm leaning toward the Axe or blade cp still. I can upgrade both of them to full cnc parts for $200.00, and purchase the RTF kit for about $200, making it a $400.00 cnc mini heli.
With that said, I'm waiting for all of the great advise from this forum, before I decide.
I appreciate all of the responses.
Please keep them coming friends,
James

Re: Which helicopter?

The CNC option sounds pretty cool but make sure you have plenty of power. I upgraded my HBCP2 with cooling fins and HD landing gear which then took away from my power. Also I would definately go with something that your LHS can support. It sucks to wait a week or more for parts via theinternet if you don't have to.

Re: Which helicopter?

Hi NU2,
Well last week was my birthday. and my wife purchased the HeliMax AxeCP and gave it to me over the weekend, So, which one to purchase is now answered for me.
With that said, I have made about 6 attempts to hover, or ran thru 6 battery charges. I removed the training balls and have bounced around the room a bit.
I found that the metal pin at the base of the tail fin likes to hang in carpet, and that the training gear also trys to stick to carpet. I moved outside to a patio with turf on it, and still fought the tail hanging in the fabric.
Then, I bumped the tail rotor, and the motor attaching screw for the tail rotor motor is stripped, no more rotor control.
I'm trying to fix now....
I like what I have in the AXE so far. We'll see how the tail motor repair goes this evening.
James

Re: Which helicopter?

Good luck James! Be patient. Pushing your limits of skill too fast will cost you money and frustration in repairs and down time. I am not familiar with that heli at all so I cant give much advice there. It was not clear to me if you are not getting enough power or if you are just getting caught on the substrate while trying to hop around. If you can get a flight sim it makes an amazing improvement on your skills. Even just the free FMS helps. Good luck and again be patient with your skills! Oh and congratulations on the heli and Happy Birthday!

HI James,

Try drilling a small hole in a 1/4 to3/8" size plastic bead and then glue it to the end of that pin. The bead will act like a unidirectional tail wheel and will help to keep it from hanging up in carpet and in cracks, holes, and other iregularities in the ground.
Used this trick on my sabre and it works great!

Good flying,
Neil
