Gyro ?

Hello.

Could someone please tell me what the difference between a "head-lock" and a "heading-hold" gyro is?

Is there a price difference?

Thank you in advance.

Tino.

Re: Gyro ?

There is no difference as they are the same thing. We use the terms interchangably. The big difference in gyros has to do with their price and performance. The Futabas are the gold standard and work great and are easy to setup but some of the cheaper ones like the Telebee work fine also and the new ones like the JR 7703D or the Spartan are unreal in their performance!
I use a moderatly priced one from xmseller on ebay that is similar to the Telebee on my Trex and it works fine but I have a Futaba Gy401 on my Koyosho 30 and I just love it!
A good, fast servo on the tail makes a hugh difference in gyro operation too.

Re: Gyro ?

Very true on the servo front, the GY401 is wasted on a cheap servo.

The cheaper gyros are perfectly ok for learning with, and will cope well enough with forward flight and some aerobatics. Having a switchable gain is handy and most cheap gyros have this facility...you can select 'heading hold/lock' for some applications like flying backwards or sideways and so on...having the gyro in rate mode makes for a 'looser' tail which is good for general zooming around where having a 'locked' tail is not always the ideal.

What a like about the GY401 is the trimmer or limit function...you can set the servo ATV to its maximum setting on the radio and use the limit function on the gyro to set the ATV instead...so you get to use the servo at its best possible speed.
