Re: Lama IV and beyond

I would keep away from the helis with the fixed pitch type main rotor, they commonly have the tail rotor driven by a seperate little motor...they do fly but are hard to control and are generally rubbish.

I would go for something like the Belt CP, or even a Blade 400....which is probably the better one.

If money is not too tight then I would get a Trex 450, I have an XL HDE version and its just great. Parts are cheap and plentiful and the upgrades are there if you want to bling it up.

Golden advice is to get something that has 2.4 ghz radio gear...small electric helis are prone to problems with the motors and speed controller dishing out a LOT of interference which can easily cause a crash.

I think 2.4 ghz is becoming common which can only be a good thing.

I am pretty sure the Blade comes with 2.4 ghz as standard. Trex kits usually use 'real' radios so again if you go the rex route then be sure to choose that type of radio.

I have a work mate who has just started flying a Trex 450SE using a Futaba radio on 2.4 ghz, he started out with a similar heli to the Lama. He will do ok as long as he doesnt go too far too soon
