which heli next?

I have been flying the ESKY comanche since christmas and I am looking to upgrade. I have been looking at the Esky MK3 and the Esky Honey Bee King 2. I feel that the Honey Bee would be too much of a step up. Any help on what my next step should be is appreciated. Thanks.

Well there are 2 schools of thought on what your planning... One of those says that moving from a contra rotator to a full CP machine is too big of a jump because the cost of breaking it puts you off so this school of thought says that you should move to a fixed pitch with a tail rotor as an intermediate step. This way does have its merits but my opinion is that provided you can fly the comanche, the mark3 isnt going to teach you much.

The other says that if you can fly the comanche, the controls on the king are basically the same though the machine is much twitchier, more complex and faster its probably more stable than the MK3 because the rotor head speed is much higher. The downside is that they do cost more to buy and fix but ask yourself how many crashes you can have of a HB king compared to the cost of buying a mk3?. The other big plus is that the HB King will cope better with flying outside.

Id therefore say go for the King 2. It is a big jump, but in my opinion the king will be an easier bird to fly than the mk3, and will ultimately take you further into the hobby than the mk3. (I flew a freinds mk3 a while back and it was a really squirly bird to handle, Id say it was less stable than my trex 450.). If you do go for the king, TAKE IT EASY and use small controll inputs until you get your head round the speed.

I agree with go for the gold.

I might add.... Use a flight sim!!!! I hear Phoenix is THE one to have. But if you need a cheaper one, Clearview is great. If you need a free one, go with HeliSimRC.

Practice, practice, practice. Sim isn't the real thing, but you will definitely learn to fly better and crash less with it. Even the best of the best use sims when they're not on the field flying.
