| Suggestions for first kit Hey there, I've recently become increasingly interested in the RC Heli world and would like suggestions on what to get for my first kit. I want something relatively cheap for obvious reasons, and was wondering what would get me the most bang for a few hundred. |

| Re: Suggestions for first kit Hi Icedevil6, Welcome to the forum ![]() The best choice of what to get for you depends on a number of factors such as do you want to fly outdoors, do you want to build it, how much space you have... If you only want to fly around in the house then you cant go far wrong with a blade CX. Its fairly easy to fly and reasonably cheap (about $150 I guess) however it wont fly outside unless there is no wind at all. If you want a machine that can fly outside then you have to look at more complex, bigger and heavier machines with collective pitch.. A fairly good outside capable machine would be a Blade 3D but here comes the downer... it costs a lot more (approximately twice what the CX would be). If you want to build a machine then the cost jumps up again because you need to not just buy the heli but also the stuff to make the heli fly (Radio, servos, battery, charger) The advantage is that you learn more about what makes them tick (or buzz lol) and the quality and capability is another step up. The disadgantage is that they will cost you about 75% more than the Blade 3d to get working (You'll get a package deal for about $550-600). Again, if you have lots of space and you want to have the most stable machine possible then you need to be looking at a 30 - 50 size nitro and joining a club. You guessed it, there is another jump in the price but you really should join a club if you get one of these because the possibility for hurting yourself / others becomes much more real (thats not to say that a smaller electric wont hurt you its just very unlikely to kill you ... Nitro size birds have been known to). The upside of this type of bird is its easier to fly and wind is much less of an influence. The fly-charge-fly time is also shorter (with a nitro). Also if your in a club you can get help learning to fly the things... (It might look easy to fly them but its not lol.). The downside of a nitro is the cost is again higher (around $600-$800 for a basic one) they cost more to fix after a crash and you need to lug a fair amount of support equipment around with the heli (which you first have to buy lol). If you want to try the hobby with no risk at all, Id recommend getting a simulator as a first purchase. (you can get them at prices ranging from about $80 to about $300) this will give you a good feel for what they are like to fly but there is no risk in crashing. So there you go.. A complex answer to a simple question but there isnt any point in saying buy an "X brand heli" because it might not be suitable for what you want to do. Hope this helps... Azzy
