Well I am complete newbie to this hobby, I have several other serious hobbies so I will be taking it slow but some who know me would disagree ![]() Any way, A friend had a RC plane, I didn't want to get into the RC hobby with plan for many reasons and kept telling him we need to get RC cars. Well my friend sold the plan and bought a heli ![]() It was love at first sight. So I have a plan will be bothering many of you with questions - apologies in advance. The plan is to get a very good simulator. And keep learning. Once I have learned a little about all the terms and there is so much I would get a really good controller, and get a really small heli so I can get comfortable with it and move up slowly. So I have been looking the Realflight G4 and wanted to ask does it come with all the differenet helis in the package and if I wanted to add a specific model is it possible? and where would one get the files? also which is the best sim realflight g4 reflex xtr hanger 9 fs one

| Re: Newbie! - Sim? Hi Cybrbug welcome to the forum. I know what you mean about love at first site. That's how I got started in this hobby. A friend got a heli for Xmas a few years ago I took one look and have been hopelessly addicted ever since. The first thing I would recommend is that you DON"T try and start off with one of the really small heli's like you've mentioned. In theory it sounds reasonable and many of the boxes even say for beginners. But in reality the smaller heli's are vary twitchy and harder to control . They are probably the number one reason so many wannabe heli pilots drop out before they ever get the hang of basic hovering. The bigger the heli the more stable it will be and easer to learn on. A good sim will be your best friend in this endeavor. No matter what skill level its a lot cheaper to learn new maneuvers on your sim first before trying it out with your heli. I wont get in to the debate over witch sim is better. Thats a never ending battle on all the heli forums. But I will say that the three you have listed are defonetly the ones that are the main players in all those debates. I personally use a RealFlight sim so I can at least answer your question about that. The G-4 comes with a basic collection of heli's. Right now they are offering the #1 and #2 expiation packs free when you buy. You can also go to the download gallery and get other heli's that people have created and load them in to your sim. No matter witch sim you chose just make sure that your PC is up to the task. It takes a lot of power to run some of these programs.

Re: Newbie! - Sim? Good points that are well covered, I agree that the small helis are a pain to control. I started off with a 30 size nitro/glo engined Kyosho, it was a Nexus 30SS. Glad I did too...it was a great experience. I used two very basic sims when I was learning, again this was a good start. Even the cheapest of sims will give you value....learning to hover and really keep that heli under control is fun to learn. You can get to practice all sorts of emergency situations as well...you might not get things perfect on the day such a thing happens but this can make a difference between totalling your heli...or taking home a broken heli that will fly again with a few new parts. Phoenix is a good sim, so is Reflex XTR...but like the other guy said...make sure your PC can handle it. Heliwise? once you decide to buy one, just post here and ask questions about it. Rob yes....its an addiction crashed my petrol heli the other day...swore that was the end of the hobby for me...last night...I tucked the credit card away....having ordered new parts![]()

Re: Newbie! - Sim? Good for you. Take the sim seriously and you will be well rewarded. I used the two basic sims I had and they did the job very well...they lacked some features for sure...like the modes that you can use for stunt flying and so on. I loved learning to fly, I would go through it all again if I could. The good thing about a sim is that you wont ever not use it....its better to try out new methods of flying on the sim rather than wrecking a real model. Rob

Re: Newbie! - Sim? Hi ,my recommended sim would be the Reflex Xtr.Real world scenery, very realistic, especially if you play with the parameters you can easily mimic your own heli.Does need quite powerful computer to give really smooth operation.

Re: Newbie! - Sim? I ordered the G4 and not the XTR for lack of English manual, I would need a controller hence the extra expense I don't want to incur at this time. Plus I am afraid Germans are always right ![]()
