Orientation Problem in R/C Flight

Hi Everyone
I have a T-REX 450 Electric Heli. I use Real Flight G4 Simulator to learn How to fly this heli. But I can not adapt myself to the changes of the orientation of Heli. Is there any practical approach or technique to overcome the orientation problem in order to fly a R/C heli ?

Regards
Cem

Re: Orientation Problem in R/C Flight

Hi
I have a 450 as well. I highly recommend Radd's school:

The other thing that I've found helped me with orientation is put the training wheels on and drive the heli around on the ground. I can relax because I'm not in the air, but the directional control inputs are the same as if I were.

Hi there,

Welcome to the Forum

Like Uneverno says, Radds School is a good starting point so is his idea of driving it round on the floor. Both will help you enormously the other thing is not to panic when it feels like its not going as you expect. The more you relax the more it will become "instinctive"

Good luck with it ... Azzy

Re: Orientation Problem in R/C Flight

I have a trick that I learned from the forums that works very well. On the SIM set your rudder trim so that the heli spins slowly and then pratice hovering it like that. Don't stop the spin just concentrate on keeping it level. Also when flying on the SIM or for real, wiggling a control will tell you which way the heli is pointing. This helped me tremendously.

Re: Orientation Problem in R/C Flight

On the radio there should be a trim switch under the rudder/collective stick....just zip the trim all the way over...either left or right...doesnt matter which...then try hovering like this.

Another trick is to put all the trims way off....and then go hover...this is good practice for a real model thats not trimmed well....you get used to offsetting the controls to compensate.

Ok...flying towards you? if the heli dips it rotor to YOUR right...try moving the cyclic stick right a touch....this will cause the rotor to dip left...so with heli flying towards you...and you pointing towards the heli...imagine you are propping a stick under the rotor as it dips.

Better to get this right with the sim...use it till you get really really good.

I enjoyed learning to fly, I would go through it all again if I could....I still enjoy flying and theres always a challenge to learn something new.

Do not neglect your 'fine control' by this I mean hovering and doing as precise flying as possible...anyone can throw a heli about...but doing nice slow controlled flight is a good thing to get into.

Re: Orientation Problem in R/C Flight

Nose in and inverted flight is confusing so fly on your sim until thses things become second nature. After you pratice awhile it will come easy and you won't have to think so much when you fly and that makes your recoveries faster. This will save you much time and money in broken heli!

PS HI ROB
