walkera 60 transmitter problems?.

Hi i have purchased a 60 off a friend cheaply after he burnt out the main motor in his house and did not know how to replace it. I have replaced the motor but can not get the heli to do anything at all. i switch on the transmitter, plug in the battery, press the button to bring on the light on the speed controller, a red led is flashing on the gryo, when i try the controls on the transmitter nothing happens on the heli,am i doing some thing wrong or is something else broken,
please help
