new guy - sort of stupid sometimes

hello folks

I'm a newbie here and I guess that I come just a bit late.

I had a couple of toy heli's recently and thought they were a blast. I thought that this might make a great hobby. I did some reasearch about where to get started and I bought a Honey Bee #4 and the fms flight simulator.

Of course, I was impatient and set up the heli and took it out for a flight before I even loaded the simulator. Well, I can certainly say that all of the advice about not doing something stupid like that - is spot on. Crashed the heli on the first lift off.

So, I guess that we start with a 10 second flight and then get right into the building part!!

I loaded the fms simulator and I am now ready to give up the hobby - I am too stupid to fly the simulator.

Anyone know the right setting for the fms simulator so that it is at least similar to the controls on the Esky - simple thing = left stick is up/down - right stick is left/right turn, forward/back?

I'm lost and would love to have alittle bit of advice.

thanks in advance

Ha Ha you are so right about that first flight. We all have done that. The left stick controls the throttle and the rudder (left/right). The right stick controls the forward backward and the left/ right banking. One thing about the FMS, When you set up your control channels make sure that the bottem set of settings mirror the top set. I think if you look at the calibration settings you will see what I mean.

Well - I've just about given up on the FMS software - sadly.

I can't seem to figure out the settings so that the left stick is the up/down and the right stick is directional - A couple have been kind enough to offer suggestions, but either I have to learn upside down and backwards (Mode 1) or maybe find another package.

I got the mirror part right -with a little bit of help. Other than that -not much luck with the software.

Ok Here is how mine is set. Set interface to joystick then do mapping as follows. Rudder 4, elevator 2, aileron 1, throttle 3. then tail 4, and down 2,1,3 the rest of the way. Check the inv boxes and the expo boxes.
This is with the controller that came with my FMS so if you have a different control it may be different.

That's the same one that I have been trying to get to work. Checking both boxes is one thing that I haven't tried

I'll give that try! Thank you very much - I appreciate the help.

I will learn how to fly one of these things!!! If it's the last thing that I do.

Baby Huey,

That is it! I think that the trick was checking off all of the boxes. At least the controls seem sort of reasonable to me - now -if I can learn not to overact to evrything - little movements of the sticks it seems!

Thank you for taking the time to help

I have seen that comment from more than a couple of members here. Doing a little bit of search stuff - I see that most of the comments come from experienced pilots or relatively new guys that have had a good newbie beginning.

All of that stuff lead me to order the RealFlight G3.5 just the other day.

Thanks for the suggestion.
