| Newbie's first days Hello all Just thought i would share my first days with u and if u have any pointers please feel free to tell When i got it home the first thing quick scan of manual for battery charging instructions right battery on charge (wont take long i thinks wrong ) so i sit and read the manual then have a look at dvd everything looks quite straight forward, ok after about an 1hr reading and watch dvd go and check battery still got solid green and red light how much longer like a child watching and waiting for battery to charge so i can have a go finally battery charged (about 1 1/2 hrs) inserted in heli i'm scared now only got kitchen to fly in (wind howling outside ) not a lot of room push the throttle up slowly and watch for moment in any direction try and set trims thats it battery flat again oh noooooooooooooooooo back on charge have a good look round heli took off body.... Right ready again a flew little bunny hops and skips still having trouble setting trims right every time i get close to anything i shut off the throttle and put in back in the middle of the floor try again and so on and on i go then bang i hit the cupboard doors cr4p broke two blades 1 upper 1 lower after replacing start again i start skidding the heli back to the middle of the floor still hopping around a few inches of the floor and again i hit something god this aint easy at all this is gonna take for ever oh well i will master it eventually ( i dont ever let anything beat me and i put in 100% to learn) ok finished trying to fly about 00:00 last night after ko ing 2 uppers and 1 lower right got to get another battery and the flight sim ( phoenix ) today from lhs sorted right flying around on sim for a few hrs while batteries charge have a good look round it and no major probs flying as there is no pressure have a few crashes loose the heli a few times but i like it getting the hang of it know.... Had a little fly with heli tonight dam got to set trims again but after speaking with the guy at my lhs he said u wont get a decent hover at a few inches of the ground because of turbulence/ground effect now i'm still nervous about flying in such a small place 6ft x 8ft roughly now i've got to get it up to about 3ft to stop g.e ok get trims somewhere near get heli off the floor up a little more and a little bit more ok not to bad just cant get it to stay still not to scary still trying i'm getting tbe i think need to fine tune hands eyes and brain ok first battery gone next 1 in the new 1 oh this is thinner and longer ok this looks like in gonna need to add some forward elevator trim god and some more ok all trim flying around not to bad gett a few hovers ish lol then get a little to sharp/quick with controls and start going round in circles ok set it down and start again same again but on the way down i catch my freezer wallop there goes another upper blade get blades sorted and off i go then i catch the bin bag with the fly bar ok thats well bent got it nearly straight start flying then battery dies ...... Back to sim now but sort out this post first ....... Now going back to sim for more practice and hope the wind is calm tomorrow |

| Re: Newbie's first days Keep at the simulator...time spent on this is time well used in this hobby..take your time with learning...the secret with sims is...dont treat them as a game..and however good you get...when you fly the real thing just ease off a bit..reality is a bit more stressful, in a good way I might add. Whats the heli? |

| Re: Newbie's first days Thats a good heli for its money, gives you a sense of 'real' rc heli control. Stick with it, it wont handle a breeze that well...so be careful with it. I wouldnt bother buying anything else like those fixed pitch helis with the tail motors that drive the tail rotor...what a load of rubbish they are. If you ever decide to go the next step I would say the Belt CP might be worth a look, I have a Trex 450 XL which is just a great little heli. I also have a Twister Bell 47...cousin of the Blade CX2..darn good fun for its money...The CX version is VERY popular around the World. Have you seen the Twister version of the Chinook? its awsome!!! about 140 quid...and just looks great ![]() |

| Re: Newbie's first days Hi Carpman, Sounds like your doing good... Like the hawky says, keep going on the sim, it'll pay dividends. Also, if you are looking at another machine, the blade 400 3d is a really nice machine for the money (Not quite up to trex standards but close and comes with a Spektrum 2.4Ghz transmitter which can be used for other machines too.) The Chinook is an amazing looking thing lol. There must be something in the position of the blades because it sounds like the real chinook as well lol. Im told that they run very hot and eat batteries btw. Take care... Azzy

| Re: Newbie's first days I have noticed the Blade 400, nice looking package there, wonder what the transmitter uses for batterys? be cool if you could use proper Ni cads or Nmhi. It could well be a good buy, if parts are available and at not too stupid a price. Rob |

| Re: Newbie's first days Hey Hawky ![]() It runs AA Drycells as far as I know... 6off. You could use Ni-Cad or Ni-Mh but they would be AA sized as far as I can tell. Take care... Azzy

| Re: Newbie's first days Might want to check out " You Tube" under the name NIGHTFLYYER. He has lots of info on setting up and flying heli. I saved a lot of money on parts by watching what he learned the hard way. |
