newb - what rc to buy

so i was goin through the mall last week and a guy was flying this little copter for $30.

now i'm addicted.

obviously a week later, this one is trashed, it's made of foam, i've been surfing the net a little and talked to a guy at the local hobby shop.

i want something i would say for indoors most of the time, but outside sometimes too.

the guy at the shop was suggesting a cx2,

i don't know a bunch about these, but i'd like something that has good control. the cheapy i had really had not much control ($30, what do you expect)

anyway, some input on which way to go would be great.

(i'm also into drag racing and modifying cars really heavy, and i see you can do the same with these)

Hi,
The Cx2 is a good starting heli but as it is a coaxial main blade set up it will be very stable but limited to hovering around and some foward flight. Even so this is a good way to start if you don't want to invest in a sim and a collective pitch Heli.
You still will want to get a SIM so you can pratice other types of flying and things like nose in hovering without tearing up your heli.

what is the big difference in a sim,

i'm not opposed to investing, the thing i don't wanna do is drop $$ and then decide i want more and have to drop em again

There are two types of sim, The ones like Real flight that are expensive but are very realistic and ones like FMS that can be downloaded free and used with either your transmitter or a dedicated controller. I use FMS with a controller that I bought from E sky for twenty bucks. I like it since I downloaded the latest version from FMS as the version that came with the controller was pretty basic.
One advantage that Real flight has is that as you advance in skill you can add challenges like simulating running out of fuel in flight.

Hi Beefcake..

Welcome ..

The other thing a sim does for you is it allows you to try stuff without it costing you money. It really is one of the best purchases that a model heli pilot will make because its one of the only (if not THE only) things you can get in this hobby that saves you money lol.

As far as heli goes, my opinion is that it would probably be better to steer away from the Collective Pitch machines for a while. Until you can either fly a sim or you have gotten good with a CX.. Part of the reason for this is youve stated you want to learn indoors.. which a CX is perfect for. A CP heli will be much harder to handle in a house (they move faster and can damage more because of the higher rotorhead speed.) Also, a CP heli needs a fair ammount of knowlege to be able to set it up and they are more complex and expensive (to buy and fix)... Dont be fooled into believing that because it says ready to fly on the box that it will fly well.

Good luck with it... Azzy
