Newbie Question Regarding Size....

Hi I am wondering if they make plastics (body etc) for RC helicopters in what I am hoping to be a 4 1/2' - 5' (or even if possible 6' helicopter? I have a project where I need to make a helicopter look like it is made out of melting ice. I have tried hobby stores, went to a RC helicopter show down in LA and nobody seems to know an answer if they make plastic that large let alone what a price would be for such a thing. Can anyone help me out on this? I would be grateful for some help on this subject.

Re: Newbie Question Regarding Size....

Hi there,

I dont think anybody has an answer becasue I dont think its ever been tried before and your description isnt terribly clear.

Am I assuming you want a model helicopter that is 6 feet LONG or has a 6 foot ROTOR DIAMETER. If its the former, then you are looking at a Massive machine with probably around an 8 foot rotor span. And you have 2 problems getting what you want. First is that a machine that size is going to need a Gasoline engine or a Gas turbine to get enough power to fly. Secondly Im not aware of anybody making custom bodies for RC helis I.E, you phone up a company and say "I want a heli body that looks like melting ice" and they make it for you. So you are gonna have to build it yourself. This isnt impossible, just hard.

I would advise you to think smaller than 6 foot. 4.5 foot is still big for an RC heli. If possible think around 3.5 to 4.5 foot because there is a fair chance that youd get mechanics to fit that.

Hope this helps... Azzy

Re: Newbie Question Regarding Size....

The size of a 90 size heli would be about 6foot. blades are 710 each and with the head it would not be far off. my raptor 90 is in the garage and i am too lazy to go and get a tape out to check but it would why the melting ice????
