I have $400,which radio...?

I just started to get into rc heli's about a month ago but I've been fascinated by them since chilhood.I currently own the Blade CX and after month of owning it,I realised I'm an aggressive flyer and the CX cant hold up so its time to move up.
After reading post after post, recommendations and tips from you experienced guys, the best thing to do is to get a simulator.I have been able to get copies of Phoenix RC and G3 sims without a controller or transmitter. Now the problem is getting a good controller thats a little bit future proof to use it for the sims and later on use it for the heli i will buy.
I have read posts about guys on a budget recommending the futaba 7chp and also the sticky radio post recommends the JR 3810 and Futaba super 8.All I have is $400 and I could probably throw in another $100 if the spouse is not looking..
So the question is,what radio will you buy with this amount of money to use for a sim and a heli later on..? Thanks and any recommendation will be appreciated.

Re: I have $400,which radio...?

Hi Rufus,

For $400-500 Id suggest that maybe your best bet is the Futaba 7chp the JR 3810 looks like JRs older technology and I think Id steer clear of it, money no object, Id recommend the JR PCM 9 X II but Im afraid $500 wont get close to it unless you do a dogy personal import.

For $500 you MIGHT be able to get a Futaba FF9 or better still a Spektrum DX7 but I dont know if a lead is made yet for realflight ect yet.

Hope this helps, Azzy.

The Futaba FF7 or 7CHP radio is a mighty fine bit of kit....user friendly and with 10 model memorys it should last a long time.

The DX7 2.4 ghz radio is probably the better one to get....it sounds a good buy. Its vital to get the best you can afford because its going to last a long long time.

Bite that bullet!!! thats one nice spec radio system....I like the idea of being able to select a channel....prices will have come down slightly....2.4 ghz stuff is gaining so the 72 mhz and 35 mhz stuff is going to come down a bit in price to compete.....I would have thought.

Oh....I would buy a 'frequency checker' its about the size of a packet of cigarettes and will scan the 72 mhz band that rc flyers use. By switching this on before switching your radio on you could save damaging/destroying someone elses model that might be up in the air nearby where you are.

Its worth the cash....though it wont save you if your model is already up and running.
