Hello!

I have just bought a Walkera 36 as part of a plan to get back into the hobby after not flying for 10 years. I flew RC aircraft of all sorts which took a back seat to the heli's of which I had Shuttles and X-Cell 60's and then due to work commitments and travel I was forced to leave the hobby alltogether. The new job now allows me to have some more free time which I intend to use flying heli's again.

The Walkera 36 comes with a transmitter set up as mode 1, but I fly mode 2 so plan to do some conversions to the transmitter. Any particular intricacies I should be aware of?

I look forward to learning from everyone on this site.

Happy hovering!

Re: Hello!

Hello Naught,

Welcome to the forum. I hope you have a great time in returning to the hobby. Not a lot has really changed in 10 years except, Brushless motors, lipo batteries, Jet turbine engines, and the fact that helis as a whole have come a long way and are getting much easier to control and hover. This being said you should soon pick it up again. The simulator is also something that has come a huge way forward in that time in fact they were not being used back then. It was all on the buddy leads and expensive lessons.
I have a simulator and I would highly recommend one to almost anyone. Its great for those days your rained in or if you want to learn new moves.

Anyway, I am sure that although 10 years doesn't sound a lot. You will find that quite a few things have improved in this hobby.

Again Welcome to the fold.

Re: Hello!

Thanks for the welcome Daz. I have noticed quite a few changes and improvements in the technology over the last few years while walking around the hobby shops, especially the electric heli's. I do plan on getting a simulator to keep me busy on the rainy days. Which sim do you recommend?

Re: Hello!

Don't waste your money on a simulatar, spend the money on a decent CP model, extra batteries and spare blades. There's more than one way to get airborne and have fun!

Re: Hello!

And make sure you send Twisted Tim the bill for all the parts you break, if you decide to take his advise.

Re: Hello!

Funny you should mention extra battery and parts etc...............I placed an order on saturday!

I have the TX setup now and fitted training gear this weekend and have had a couple of flights hovering around the lounge. It seems that I haven't forgotten how to fly but I am a bit rusty. I can say that this little heli is not as precise and stable as the X-cells but I suppose thats what you get for a couple of bucks!

I can see an upgrade coming in the near future. Suggestions?

regards,
Naught

Re: Hello!

There are a lot of good simulators on the market today. I personally use the Reflex XTR and to this day I still find it to be worth spending the money on. I have saved way more money practicing new moves than it actually cost me.
I would recommend you have a good read and make your own choice based on what you want from it.
I will point out that if you did go for the reflex. I could help you with any problems you may have in the first days of getting familiar.

I have just met BretUK
Over this weekend and he was amazed at how lifelike my Sim is in its reality to flying his own heli.
He is a member on this forum you could ask him what his opinion is if you wish to have a second opinion. He currently has the FMS flight Sim and was taken aback to see how much better the XTR is.

Anyway I leave it to your choice.

Re: Hello!

I did a bit of surfing and the Reflex Sim does look pretty good. Thanks for the advice.
