I am new to the world of R/C heli's and want to start off right. I have about 4 months before I buy my first heli so I am doing all my homework. My question is........should I purchase the Raptor 30 V2....or should I save up a little bit more money and go for the Raptor 50 V2?? I haven't heard much about the 50 but I want something that I wont "grow" out of in a few months or so. Any help would be great! Thx! P.S I am very happy with the quality of this website. Keep up the great work!!!! Jason ![]()

Hi Jason, I personally started with, and still have, a Shuttle Z-TS, which is a 30 size. The larger helicopters will be more stable and docile (they have more inertia so don't get blown about as much in wind). I've just been browsing the web and the Shuttle RG (old machine now) looks quite sexy - and had very good reports (so much so I want one). I can't give you any better advice than this because I only know the only helicopter I've ever owned - my trusty Shuttle. However, if I were faced with your decision, I'd do what you've done and post the question on model helicopter forums, and additionally pop in to your local model shops and ask their opinions. BUT: ask 100 people, "Which is the best machine to start with" and you'll get 100 different opinions. At the end of the day you'll make your own decision based on: - The look of the machine: Do you think it looks sexy? - The cost of the machine: It's your money, no-one elses. - How easy it is to repair and get the parts and how much this will cost you. You want to make sure your local model shops stock the spares! And your decision will be right (even if you end up deciding to spend ?8000 on a gas turbine model!! See Midland Helicopters, UK I want one of those !!! Last edited by darren_uk : 04-15-2003 at 11:08 PM.

The best answer I have seen and agree with is to first decide how much you want to spend. Next find out who's going to help you, what they have and what you can most easily get parts for. If no one can help you with your particular model and/or you can't get parts it won't matter which one you get!

rappy30 or 50 if i may make a suggestion...... take a look at the JR venture 30 CP--- if i were choosing between the two you named- go with the rappy 50.. the machine will be more stable and the repair costs would not be much higher. the only drawback that i could see would be fuel costs. that os 50 sux down the nitro much faster than the 30 sized engines. either choice should be and awesome heli.....
