Exclamation Newbie getting ready for first flight

Just bought a Micron V-2 from Precisionheli out of St. Augustine, Fl. (See Attached Photo) Have yet to fly it, and was wondering about the power up procedures for a micro heli.I don't want to kill it right off the bat. I've been reading about trimming it out and setting up the gyros for optimal flight, but that means nothing if it's in the carpet right off. By the way, I did purchase the crash kit (containing one set of blades and a skid set), on the side of caution, and I already burnt up a 2-3cell battery because I didn't have the switch in the right position (I left it in neutral, when it should have been in 2 cell (Li-Ion & LI-polymer 7.4V-11.1V) Ooops! Cost me a few bucks off the bat! Any help with the startup procedures would be great.

Re: Newbie getting ready for first flight

Hello, Id suggest the kitchen floor or some other hard surface where the heli will slide around easily. Slowly power it up(dont get it off the ground though) until it 'skates' around. Just play with the controls and see how it responds to inputs. Once you are able to keep it in a general area, try lifting off all while staying close to the ground. Iff it gets out of conrtol, you can throttle down and land or softly crash. A crash from 2 inches is better than a crash from 2 feet! Good luck!

Hi albegone
Always turn on your transmitter first and make sure that the throttle is all the way off before you plug in the battery on the Heli.
After you have everything powered up make sure that the swash levels out. I was checking out your pictures and saw that its way off. Its probably no big deal and should level it self out once you have everything powered up but just double check before you spool up.
Good luck

Thumbs up Re: Newbie getting ready for first flight

Hey Guys and/or Gals,
Thanks for all the good info, it is all very helpful and much appreciated.
I work in a wharehouse in a hospital, so maybe I'll try there instead of the kitchen floor. The guys'll get a kick out of it, and I'll have someone to film the maiden flight, once I get my new batteries in the mail (bought 2 this time, .
As for the swash, I hope your correct, and I'll check it after powerup to make sure it levels out.
It is a cute little thing isn't it, might have to paint and add some graphics to mean it up a little. If I have the patientence, time and money that I hope I have for this hobby, I'm sure I'll be buying some bigger rigs eventually. So, let's hope I have a good little video of the cute little thing for you all to check out soon.
Once again,
Thank You.

Re: Newbie getting ready for first flight

Hello all,
As promised I've got a good little vid for you to check out. Just kept it on the floor and skated it around while I trimmed the tail rotor, but every time I throttled up it pulled left hard. I'll need more room to figure that one out, if I can get it airborne a little it'll give me time to trim out the main rotor, I think. Maybe the wharehouse idea is a good one, but I got my new batteries in the mail and could not wait. The site woundn't let me upload it for some reason so i'll mail it to anyone interested.

Re: Newbie getting ready for first flight

Hi there,

It depends how hard and what direction your blades go but a pull to the left as the heli gets light on the skids is normal. Its because of 2 factors. 1 The tail rotor blows air to the right to compensate for the torque of the main rotor. 2 The main rotors torque will tend to try and push the whole heli to the left. What you need to do is control the pull by using a small ammount of right Aileron (roll) control until it gets itself sorted out. Its worth pointing out that when hovering, a single rotor helicopter wont be level as you would expect but will hover with one skid slighty lower than the other (in your case it will be the right skid).

Hope this helps.... Azzy
