Heli Max Axe CP help, sliding left??

Hi,
Newbie here, with a new Heli Max Axe CP. I've been thru about 6 or 7 battery charges, and have taken off the training balls. I having trouble trimming the left cyclic. If I power up enough to get lite, the heli slides, and I can't seem to get it close to a center. Trying to trim it, I have gone all the way with the trim. If I power up slow until it is lite, the heli wants to tip.
Any suggestions while I wait on repair parts? Yes, I flew it in to a wall. Should have listened to NU2s advise on taking it slow.

Another issue I have found with the AXE, both of my tail motor mounting screws are stripped. Not sure if it is the screws or the motor housing that is actually stripped. I plan to try and epoxy in some studs, and use nuts to re mount the motor. Has anyone else had this issue?
James

Hi,
I liked your message, I left a very similar one a couple of weeks ago. I have been practicing for almost 2 months and hovered my heli for the first time yesterday. Practice, its frustrating but i made my heli hover twice then crashed it but couldent be happier, I controlled it in flight and have found the addiction that i keep reading about on this site

Re: Heli Max Axe CP help, sliding left??

Hello,

It seems that you are making a classic mistake, When you are light on the skids the heli will want to translate to the left as long as it stays on the floor. Use the aileron stick to correct this and give it a little more throttle to lift.
You will find that when you actually get the heli off the floor it will then react better to the trim inputs you give.
The mistake you are making is that as it gets light you actually slow down with introducing the throttle, this just really slows the heli's take off and the side slide is increased. This will slowly tip the heli to one side, usually the left.

Get the heli to where it is light; at this point use the main stick to take out any slide/tilt. Now apply throttle steady but not slowly, the heli will translate this to lift and as long as you are feeding corrections in it should remain stable enough for you to hop it and then land if you wish.

The hard part is convincing yourself to take the plunge and actually break free of the floor. You will find that you will get used to leaving the ground after a while and it gets easier to lift the heli. The heli will become much more easy to control when you get off the floor.
Good luck.

Re: Heli Max Axe CP help, sliding left??

Hi,
Thanks, I have bounced off the floor and noticed it seemed to act much better. I will put your advise to good use soon.

For now I have to order some parts or make a repair to the tail motor. From the first time I flew the AXE, the tail motor was loose. It is mounted on slotted holes, and I just assumed that was incase of a rotor strike, the motor could push away from the tail gear. Well, this worked a couple of times, but now the threads in the motor are shot.
I have thought about using epoxy to glue in some studs, but I'll probably just buy another motor.
I bought a Lipo, and didn't make it thru one charge before having the motor problem.
I created a tread on the motor issuem but no one has responded.
Thanks for the advise on the sliding, I will give it a try soon.
James

Welcome to 'ground effect'! Throttle up a bit and it should stabilise.

Re: Heli Max Axe CP help, sliding left??

Thanks Twisted,
I plan on it as soon as my parts arrive,

News on the tail motor,
I called Tower Hobby, a person answered the phone I explained the problem, and after a brief hold, they told me they would send me a new tail rotor motor for free. I asked about the screws, and if they would include them. or if I could buy them as they were only 89 cents. Another brief hold, and sure we'll send both. Very happy newbie here, and TOWER HOBBY is GREAT...
I'll update when I get the motor.
James
