RealFlight G3.5 Spin on Powerup

Would some body please let this newbie know if I am doing something wrong here?

I am using RF G3.5 and every time I power up a heli, no matter how slow I go during power up the heli wants to spin around on the spot (tail right) before I have any tail control.

Not ever having flown a real heli, would some one please advise if this is "normal" behaviour for a heli or is there some thing I am over looking in powerup to keep the heli steady?

Re: RealFlight G3.5 Spin on Powerup

Hello gary,

A lot of heli's somtimes power up on sims in this way, they are just poorly created versions that I have downloaded.
If the heli's are doing this then what I do on the XTR is I go into the models physical paramitures and I make adjustments to the pitch angle of the tail rotor to counter this affect. It takes a couple of takes usually just as it does when your setting the tail up for real. But I usually get it to hover and power up nicely.

Most simulators allow you to change the pitch configurations this is what I would do to get that sorted. Remember to save the changes you have made but do them as a different name like Daz-Raptor 50. This way you'll Keep the original as well as have your modified model.

Wish I could help you more. good luck,

Re: RealFlight G3.5 Spin on Powerup

It isn't just the download helicopters that exhibit this in realflight, although many of them behave extremly poorly in this regard.

Real flight seems to have a poor static physics model, which I think contributes greatly to this.

I don't have a huge amount of helicopter experience but Realflights in air model seems pretty good to me. However the way the helicopter interacts with the ground is modelled very poorly.

Re: RealFlight G3.5 Spin on Powerup

I did fly the realflight G3.5 at a model show, I must say that I was happy to have chose my XTR. I have had it for so long now and still have no trouble getting models that fly well in download form. They are always adjustable so I can work out the problems with them. I do still think that the XTR sim cannot be faulted after some years.

Re: RealFlight G3.5 Spin on Powerup

I am still very much a beginner so I can't really comment on advanced flight characteristics, I have Realflight 3.5 and I like it a lot, but take off and landing are far too easy because of lack of any real interaction between the heli and the ground. The obvious perfectly trimmed helis make things easier.

One of my co-workers just picked up Phoenix and having messed with it for a couple of hours I think that would be my first choice if I was choosing again. I haven't played with XTR.

Can you not set the heli so that it is more unstable?
With the XTR you can even induce more or less ground affect. You can unballance the heli allso. I am not saying that it is the best simulator out there. It is a well thought out and put together sim though and the flight engine is allso very true for the most part.
you can allso download and add aircraft free, even backgrounds are downloadable if others have made the effort to make them. I have a couple of extras and they work well.

Yes you can make things less stable, playing with the parameters and adding even a little wind helps.

I think the flight characteristics are actually very good, but you can't really tune out the lack of decent ground to helicoper skid interaction. Once you get beyond basic hovering it likely doesn't matter to most of the customers anyway.
