Question New to Heli's Advice needed !

Hi, everybody first post. Questions I brought a Walkera 5#4 RTF crashed it a few time basicly because it seemed to have a mind of its own despite triming it, all it wanted to do was a spiral left. Any ideas ?

Really want to learn but I think that I've just wasted NZ$220 on a piece of chinese junk. The shop where I got are more than happy to keep selling me parts at inflated prices. Funny that

I've looked at a T-Rex 450se would that be a good learner?
I've got a simulator to put some flight hours in.

Any help, suggestions, advice, abuse welcomed.

Madaxeman.

Hello, l empathise with you about this forum. However, if your first post is what you've typed AFTER you've 'corrected' the spelling mistakes then you'll fit in well the users on here!

Re: New to Heli's Advice needed !

Hi Madaxeman,

A belated welcome to the forum. Sorry you feel like people are looking but not talking, that could be for a number of reasons including that the people dont think they can help or like me are at work and dont have a great deal of time to create a response. Generally the ppl round here are pretty helpful and friendly.

As far as you problem goes, I cant suggest much to help except it sounds like the problem is in the tail so you should look at the Gyro / tail servo / linkages. Walkeras dont have fantastic electronics so Id look at the gyro first.

Would a T-Rex 450Se be a good learner... Well yes and no. Its a brilliantly engineered little heli with lots of aluminium and carbon parts on it. That also makes it an expensive heli to crash if you bend / break an alli part. One carbon frame sides cost about the same as a frame set for a T-Rex 450xl. If you were changing to a t-rex I would suggest looking at a 450XL and running it on Wood blades. As far as a beginner goes, this will fly just as well as the SE but it will cost less to fix when it goes in.

Hope this helps.... Azzy

Re: New to Heli's Advice needed !

Hi Aztek1701,

Many thanks for replying. The little Walkera 5-4 is a Co-axeil heli. The only gyro adjustment is sensitivity, it's all in the 3-1 reciever. I checked the swashplate and set the trims on the tx to a center position and had to un clip the ball joints and level it that way. It's nowhere near as bad as it was but it still won't hover in one place with out a lot of input I 'm not crashing it as much now more like a sort of controlled crash sometimes !

You are probably right about the T-rex 450XL as I could always upgrade the parts to SE spec later. I'll check out the prices here in NZ.

Thanks again,

Madaxeman

Re: New to Heli's Advice needed !

Other than the suggestions, you might make sure the swashplate is allowed full movement and is not binding up on anything. I installed a new lower rotor head on my Blade CX and first flight was almost a disaster. The lower rotor head I installed was too low on the outter shaft, limiting the amount of travel of the swashplate.
Look to see if theres a motor speed adjustment on the 4in1. I believe you can adjust the speed of each motor.
Which way is it drifting after centering the trims? To the left still?
Good luck!

Bin the Walkera, put it down to experience and buy a Twister CP but not the V2, just yet....
