need new lipo charger and balancer

Newbie here hello. First off hello to everyone. I am into nitro off road and recently got a sim and am getting a axe cp soon. I use lipo in my off road and charge them through a cheap wall charger. Now I want to get the whole set up and the balancing with it. I was looking at the mrc 989 but need to know what balancer is good for it. I will mostly be balancing 1,2,3 cells for now until I get a trex. I like the mrc 989 because it charges everything.

Re: need new lipo charger and balancer

Hello and welcome to the forum,

I have just spent some time looking at and reading what this charger mrc 989 is about. I have to admit it does sound like a great charger for normal packs Nimh and the like. I am worried that it is not going to properly look after your li/po batteries. Sure it charges them, so does your wall charger do this, from what I have read it does not do much more.
What I would recommend is that you get a charger that can charge li/po batteries and ballance them all day. Somthing that is designed for Li/po batteries and is dedicated to them.
Have a look at the Cellpro 4S charger at www.Aurorra.co.uk it costs about the same and is a fantastic unit. It does what it says and the company supply the ballance leads so you can adapt your current packs to be charged and ballanced by it, as long as the pack has a ballance lead it is easy to alter the pack.

The MRC 989 is a good charger but I am not sure about its suitability as a Li/po care center. I use one charger for normal ni/cad and ni/mh packs that can allso charge li/ion. But I have a dedicated li/po ballance charger for my Lithium packs.

Good luck with what ever you decide.
