Question replacing rotor head grommet/spacer assembly

Hi, I am new into r/c helicopters (electric). I am replacing the main rotor blades on my Raptor G2. I need to know how to reinsert the rubber grommets into the rotor head before I replace the main blade holders. I can insert the spacer into the grommet; but then the grommet/spacer assembly will not fit inside the rotor head. Small parts...big hands...how do I simplify this task?

Re: replacing rotor head grommet/spacer assembly

I use silicone grease. Grease the feathering shaft as well. I've read that regular grease rots the rubber, so use silicone grease.

Or soapy water...this will do the trick.....a good tip is this;

if there is a bit of wear on the rubbers you can use washers between the rubber and the blade grips....slide them onto the feathering shaft...use real thin washers....you can then adjust how stiff you want the head to be...regular inverted flight and stunts will wear the rubbers out....if this gets worn enough you can get vibration which can destroy the heli.

Re: replacing rotor head grommet/spacer assembly

Rob,

I have about decided that the o-ring does not go over the spacer, but instead, only the o-ring fits into the slot on the rotor head with the spacer to the outside of it. In other words, starting at the end of the shaft, one would have the nut, 2 bearings side-by-side, spacer and then the o-ring (which is fitted into the small indention just inside the rotor head). Please let me know if this is wrong.

Thanks!

Charlie

That sounds right....the o ring would sit on the outside of everything....and the blade grip would go next to it.....you can fit washers onto the shaft prior to sliding the grip on to it....this squashes the o ring and makes the fit tighter...but this is only needed if you are doing a lot of stunt flying...where things need to be a bit stiffer.

Re: replacing rotor head grommet/spacer assembly

I wouldnt say expertise

More trial and error...the best thing to do is if you have a instruction manuel then do read it through from time to time....and when replacing components then keep them in order as you take them off...simply reverse the order to reinstall everything.

Did you build this heli from a kit?
