Re: new to site

Yeah, lemme be second to welcome you back to the hobby, sutton.

Long ago I was in the RC hobby, moved up from U-control to one-channel RC airplane. Then I was out of it for years. When I got back into the hobby it was with a 4-channel proportional control heli... and wow what a change in the RC world. Then I was out of it for years. Got back into it and again things have changed quite a bit. I figure, one more layoff, then when I get back in the hobby again it will be with a super-luminal thought-controlled ufo.

Happy trails.

Re: new to site

Again welcome to the forum,

There have been some thunderous changes in the last 30 years of RC the bigest and most noticable of late has been the battery devlopment with the Lithiom packs. In the beggining with the ion packs and early polimer packs we had peoples sheds and houses even going up in flames because people use the packs and then put them away in the box with the rest of the packs. theses packs however needed cooling down as they built up a lot of heat in the discharge. I have seen packs swell and burst into flames myself and it was a very big worry to a lot of people. However lots of development have come on to make a very reliable battery that we have today, Although I would still caution anybody useing them to always keep an eye on them dureing charge and after discharge.
Then you come to today and at this present time the bigest development now is without doubt the introduction of the 2.4ghz radio and receiver. this baby is fantastic. Saftey has taken a massive step forward with this intro. It has a failsafe as standard and you don't have to fly off a peg board as there are up to 2 million codes to fly with so the chances of you flying on another persons frequency is almost nill if not NILL.

so things have changed a lot there is a lot to catch up on and you have come back at a great moment in the hobbies progression.
Have a great time.
