Learning to fly heli faced at you?

Hello I can fly my heli way up now and all around with tail facing me but I am wanting to try it facing me but scared. I did try it I did it or tried a few inches off the ground hovering about 2-3 times then I tried again a bit higher and was doing ok it came at me and family and I probably paniced and either tryed to turn the tail around or just correct it think I just tryed to correct it and bring it down but hit stick wrong way blade hit and flipped and got hurt pretty bad. So now I am asking your advice on moving forward? Like should I try it up there like 100 foot and hover at me and if it goes out of control turn the tail back or what? I have practised on real flight g3 and can fly upside down a foot of ground and back at me and alot of 3D etc. But I am scared to try with mine for some reason it is alot different probably just so scared because on real flight when I crash no big deal and I do alot. But I have read other site's and one said to use training gear and I first got my hawk pro 30 size I didn't use any training gear and flew just fine till I tryed back at me for about 3rd time. But I didn't use any gear mainly because didn't really need it I learned with the blade cx and then got a blade cp and I can fly my hawk pro better then my blade cp. But haven't got the facing in flight down with any of them but my cx. But I can do it on real flight and think I can do it just that I get so nervous and then I mess up when I get nervous. Any ideas for trying this would be great thanks.

Re: Learning to fly heli faced at you?

If you can do nose-in with the CX and sim then it's just nerves getting to you and you're just gonna have to do it on the real thing to face those nerves. To do that and keep the contraption in one peice I suggest that you use training gear and stay low. After all, you're training... training the nerves.

Do things like precision hovering. Stay 1 or 2 feet up and over a spot. Move slowly in a small circle around that spot. Move slowly around a square, landing at each corner briefly. Fly a slow zig zag course towards yourself with the nose changing from 45 degrees left to 45 degrees right of a nose-in position. Do the same going backwards. All this time, ignore the training gear and stay focused on the nose and rotor disk. Do this sort of thing till your nerves get bored and go to sleep. Take off the training gear and do it some more.

Never feel ashamed to put the training gear on when doing things that they can help save you from a wreck, unless it makes you feel proud to buy more fix-up parts.

I think it would work out best to deal with this nose-in thing down low with training gear. That's just my opinion cuz it works best for me.

Re: Learning to fly heli faced at you?

Flying the sim and the real thing are worlds apart.....with a sim and a cup of coffee at your side....with the Lady cooking your supper the sim is nice and safe....and you relax in the fact that if you crash...you get a new heli everytime.

Real life? you are standing up...you have peripheral vision as well....your heli might not be as reliable as the sim....and you will be that bit more nervous.

Keep a good height....tail towards you....gently bring the nose around....a bit at a time......get it so you can go side on to you....practice the 'get out cluase' namely using opposite rudder....to bring the heli tail towards you again....then when you are ready....try again.

The trick is to relax...you will be nervous at first....but nerves will subside over time.....always have a 'get out clause' practice on the sim first....then try it out.

3D? forget all that for now....chances are you can easily put in the wrong input.....which will make a dodgy situation far worse.....I did this very thing the other day....put the heli full forwards into the ground...should have pulled back instead.....I am fairly experienced too....brainfart was to blame....I am ultimately to blame

take your time....master the basics....and like Chaos said use your training gear if you want more confidence....nothing wrong with that....should have done this with my heli....I was messing with the gyro settings at the time....tail response became poor.....turned nose in and I messed it up....too busy thinking about the gyro...but there we go.

Re: Learning to fly heli faced at you?

Thanks for your replys I have just got my hawk pro and flown about 2 gallons in it and went from at first being so scared now to flying about 100foot up at least and trying to see how fast I can go lol. But that is mainly because I love this chopper it is so easy for me being easy as in a whole lot easier then my blade cp I couldn't even fly it nose in because everytime I hit the rudder to try the thing would just do a big circle or something while I was trying to fix I guess because tail was powerful and it was small. But my hawk pro to me is so so much easier then my cp and it is almost like flying a big cx and I can fly my cx all around the house noise in etc and spin the tail for fun etc. But I think it is just me being scared of crashing that is why I can't do it. See I get so nervouse and when I get nervouse I tend to mess up or hit wrong way. But I did try nose in did it like 3 times hovering real low with no training gear for a few secs but was getting it but then on christmas I was flying it around with family over all around high etc with tail facing me then I landed aways away and then turned the tail on the ground gave it gas got it up probably 4 foot then it came at me and I let it no big deal but then it got close way to fast and so I kind of paniced because it was coming at my family and so I pulled it left or its left right in front of me so it would hit me not them did ok for fews secs then it came at me and so I decided to land it in front of me and well from there it went bad I took it down and think I seen blade to low to ground so I moved the stick and think wrong way blade hit it flipped and crashed. But I also think I was thinking not sure to turn tail back that low then land so I may have been trying to do that not sure happened so fast but I know when it hit it was facing me. But yea so I think I can do it just scared from last time because I screwed up but probably would have been fine but I paniced when it came at everybody. But I am thinking I may go to flying field not try around here then go up about 100foot then turn the tail see if I can do it and hover there if not then I will turn tail back and fix hopefully. But I think I can I can do pretty much everything on real flight G3 but still learnign the offical tricks on it can do some like some tick toc trying the funnel but can't get that really yet. But other then that I do lots of flipping around etc and don't usually lose it sometimes I do. But yea I type alot don't I lol anyway thanks for your replys.

Re: Learning to fly heli faced at you?

I have a Hawk Sport which is the earlier version of the Pro.....lovely helicopter which is easy to work with though removing the engine can be a pain....I have found that if the linkages are popped off the front radio/servo mount assy can be hinged down....making access easier.

I broke my Hawk flying upside down....tore the rotor head clean off with little damage to the rest....suprising.

I have got fed up with inverted flight....one little mistake and BOOM!!!!! so I dont bother with it now.....master those basics....get really good before considering other tricks.

Century have got some great helis.
