Noobie Help Requested

Hello,
This is my first post so hello all. I have been reading and lurking for a few days now. I have followed the advice on the forum and purchased the Reflex XTR simulator and a Futaba 9z radio (best radio I can afford for now). No heli yet. Now I need help setting up the radio to work well with the simulator. Can some one help me figure out where I need the setting for both radio and smulator. Do I need to move this request to the simulator forum? I was not sure

Re: Noobie Help Requested

Hello and wellcome,

the reflex is a great simulator and it will get you sorted and ready for flight in the real form very quickly or as quick as your ability will allow.

Now then the first thing you have to do is make sure that your radio is programmed for hrli use and then make sure that it is set in the PPM/FM mode. when you have done this you simply attach the radio to the square lead plug to your dongle and plug that into your PC.
Now then as soon as you turn on your PC simulator it should find the dongle and if you have not tried to set up the radio on it yet it will go straight to the channel settup part of the program. If you have done this then to get back to it go to the header and select radio then assign channels. this should get you back to the same place.
now you need to tell the simulator what channels are used for what.
1, this is for aileron,
2, is for elevator,
3, is for throttle, you may find this in the bottom colum.
4, this is for tail rotor,
5, is for gyro sensativity.
6, This is for Pitch control,

you can also assign the aircraft channels at the same time. they are straight forward the same. I use channel 8 for flaps and 7 for landing gear.

now you have assigned your channels to your radio. you can centre your sticks and switches/knobs. Now you go to the same tab radio and this time calibrate center. with all your radio lever and trims center and your sticks and switches/knobs the radio will be centered so that the sim works in true form to your radio.
this is where you can now try and fly. You may find that when you fly the aircraft does the opposite input to that which you give. If this is the case then all you need to do is go back to your assign channels and click on the +or- at the end of the channel that has the wrong/revers input. this will correct that.

now it is a case of getting to know your simulator and having loads of fun.

Here are a few exptra tips. (THEY WORKED FOR ME).

For each crash just ad the price of a set of blades if its light an increase the damage cost if it get heavier on paper. This will show you how much you saved as a result of getting the sim to learn on. Mine payed for itself in the first day.

Now if you find that the simulator is just to unstable. there are 2 things you can do about this.
1, go to simulator tab, choose simulator paramiters and then go to time expansion factor. The greater the number above 1, the slower the simulator will be. so if you give 1.5 as the number you will slow the sim down slightly if you give 2/3 you will have much more time to learn your inputs.
2, you can go to the model tab, Then choose physical paramiters and go to the one that says hovering instablilty adjust this setting to 0/1 this should stop the heli rolling out of being stable so you dont have to fight it so much.

The reason the simulator is setup like this is so that you learn to control a slightly harder to fly aircraft. then when it iis time to fly for real you have the ability to do it with comfort. dont forget to test yourself on the simulator.

there is a lot more to do on the sim than what I have told about here. don't be afraid to try things.

Enjoy it.
