Childhood Dream Rediscovered Hello people, I thought I’d introduce myself... I ran across this site doing a little "research" trying to find the right Heli. I have always had a fascination with flying a copter as child but as I got older I forgot about it and got into a video game feddish and building computers I’m 34 and even though I still like gaming the metal challenge is not there for me anymore (I need something I can build on, like my computer) seen a segment on television about the micro mosquito and bought it….O-M-G!!! It’s game over! I downloaded a trial version of real flight 3d and I’m looking for a heli I’m thinking about this ARF setup (BLACK HAWK 500 CCPM (mainly because they say their a little bigger) http://www.xheli.com/hearfbrelrar.html and (Zoom 400 6 channel 3d aerobatic) http://www.xheli.com/hearfelrarec.html any help would be appreciated.

Re: Childhood Dream Rediscovered Hi blaquepheonix Welcome to the forum I took a look at both of the Heli's your thinking about. My concern with the Black Hawk would parts availability and I just haven't seen much info about them. The Zoom 400 you linked to is really nothing more than an old shaft driven tail Shogun not that they are bad Heli's I have one myself Its just fading technologies that is getting harder to find parts to keep them in the air. Really the mane issue with both of these kits is that you will need to buy all the electronics separately (Radio,Receiver, Servos,Motor,ESC,Gyro) and if your going to go that way you might as well go with something like the T-Rex 450 XL for just a few more $ and get a much better Heli with a huge support base and more upgrades parts suppliers than almost anyone else in the industry. Well anyway that's my two cents worth.

Re: Childhood Dream Rediscovered Welcome to the hobby, its a fascinating one with something for everyone...be it scale, sport, insane type 3D stunts or just general zooming about. It was dream come true for me too....I had always wanted to get an rc heli and fly it....I realised this about 2 yrs back..flying my first heli...a Nexus Nitro powered 30 size heli....after many hours of learning on a PC rc simulator. At the moment I am building a gas/petrol powered heli to carry a camcorder. Once you set out to buy the gear...buy the best you can afford....it will last for years...helis dont always last for years though if they are crashed and spares are hard to find. Speaking of the TRex...this is a very good heli....a bit expensive at first costs but if you shop around you can find a good deal....typical radio systems are flexible and can be used on other helis too if needed. Do ask for advice if yo uare not sure of anything....this site kicks butt for advice....and its free. Rob

Re: Childhood Dream Rediscovered ok....here's the deal I’m a certified newbie I want to start flying a heli...I’m not in a hurry to fly but I want to get my machine. Build it, get a simulator...you know take my time with it. Well, after searching the net reading reviews and talking to forum members it seems that the t rex is the best choice but what did I do? I got cheap and said I’ll order the shogun v2 (129.00) to start with...I see a few people with it and I don’t mind the upgrading plus for some reason the t rex did not seem all that special (like I know what I’m talking about) so I plan to send the shogun v2 back and eat the 15% restock fee....all because another heli caught my eye so before I do something stupid please tell me how you guys feel about the Quick of Japan EP-8 SP V2? and if anyone knows what the VAT means…… $275 included $231 excluded

Well I can say that I have never heard anything bad about the Quick lineup but then again I don't see many people talking about them ether so I would be afraid to comment one way or another. But I'm sure someone hear will have an opinion on it. Just keep in mined that all the Heli's you have been asking about require you to purchase all the electronics separately any time you see ART(Almost Ready to Fly) that's going to be the case. It looks to me like you want to get started off in the hobby with some good quality equipment and I must applaud you for that. I have seen far to many people jump in with cheep junk, get frustrated and then give up on the hobby altogether. Have you given much thought as to what radio you will get? I don't know what kind of budget your working with but you should get the best one you can afford. The TX you choose is even more important than witch Heli you pick. A good TX will out live your Heli and go on to fly many more. Even though a computerized TX may seem like over kill right now in the long run it will save you money by not having to buy again as you advance your skills. I'm sure that all the experienced pilots hear will agree with me on this point. One last thing. It appears that you are vary interested in the CNC blinged out Helicopters. So just to make you choice even harder I have another one for your consideration. The Heli-Max MX 450 XS. This one has been upgraded as much as possible theirs nothing left out. It has been getting great reviews in the RC magazines and looks like this is the one that will give the T-Rex SE a real run for the money. This is one of the Heli's that I am thinking about getting next http://www.helimax-rc.com/helis/hmxe0210.html Dan
