| First of all I'd like to say hello to everyone I'm new to r/c heli's but not new to the r/c world. I have several nitro and electric cars and trucks such as a Revo, Brushless RC18T and others.. Well I have wanted a heli for quite a while now and I finally ordered one yesterday. The thing is I have not heard one word about them in these forums so I think I already made a mistake. I bought a Global EvoFlight Sabre RTF Heli. Does anyone know anything about them? They went on special from 149 to 129 for the holidays and I couldn't help but order one with a training set and a heatsink for the motor. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXJDJ1&P=ML So did I already make a mistake? Does anyone here have one? All the help would be greatly appreciated! -Victor |

| Re: I'm new and I think I already made a mistake.... there are so many heli's these days if tower hobbies sells them you can get parts looks alright to start with. it is a fixed pitch heli there are fewer parts to break learning. i started with a fixed pitch and learned to fly in the winter on the kitchen floor. if your just starting be sure to check out Radds Flight School. http://www.dream-models.com/eco/flying-index.html

| Re: I'm new and I think I already made a mistake.... Thanks so I didn't make a mistake. Cool. So yea I'll be learning to fly in my living room... So what's the difference between fixed and controlled pitch? Which is easier to fly and how come some heli's say 3D ready? |

| The Sabre is the same as a #4 Dragonfly but with a better manual and hopefully better quality control. The little fixed pitch birds can be squirrely and tail motors don't last long but they are mechanically simpler to fix and maybe easier to fly for a novice because there are fewer adjustments to fool with.Any heli can claim to be 3D which simply means three dimensional but true 3D helis are collective pitch birds capable of inverted flight and stunts that a fixed pitch heli cannot perform. You did good by getting a heat sink and a heat sink for the tail motor is also a good thing to have.

| Re: I'm new and I think I already made a mistake.... Oh great so there is the first mistake.. I only bought one heatsink.. are the main motor and tail motor the same?? If so I will order another one but I want to make sure it's going to fit it... Should I upgrade servo's? to the HS-55? So the Sabre is a good heli then? What should be my next heli? I want to do 3D next after learning basix flight.. I'll be learning basic flight till next summer by then I plan on getting a truely 3D-capable heli.. which would you reccomend?? Sorry for all the newb questions.. this reminds me of when I first starting to get into r/c.. with cars and trucks.. but hopefully I'll catch on quick thanks for all the help guys.. I really appreciate it! |

| Re: I'm new and I think I already made a mistake.... Well...if parts are cheap and plentiful then dont worry too much. With fixed pitch there is a bit of a delay in response....you got to be a bit quicker in anticipating what the heli is going to do...going up or down. Take it easy on the collective!! otherwise you will scrape the ceiling or bounce off the floor ![]() If its the same Sabre then its quite a good heli...the Chinese are producing thousands of these helis....various companys buy them in and brand some fancy name t othem....so if you take a close look at a different brand...and it looks the same...chances are it will be. Small helis are fairly robust....I own a Twister Bell 47 which has taken some knocks but with uprgrades like an alloy top rotor hub its much stronger....make sure you stock spares for your heli. As for upgrades in general...you cant go wrong with heatsinks.....as for servos...well...if the originals are ok then use them. Its your heli so bling it by all means but the main thing is airtime...this cant be beaten if you are to progress. Welcome to the hobby.....I have been messing around with RC helis for 18 mnths or so...its a fascinating hobby...the development of batterys etc has made electric flying, in particular, cheaper and more value for money. I was flying a TRex the other day, it belongs to my Boss...I was checking it out...I am really impressed with this heli....so much so....I want one for Christmas ![]() Rob |

| Re: I'm new and I think I already made a mistake.... Cool thanks hey do you by any chance think this battery... http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXHHU5&P=7 (more mAH so more runtime but it looks like the same structure...) will fit my heli? This is the stock... http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/165070.asp the stock is 650 mAH and is 20 bucks and the other is 750 and is 9 bucks! so it looks like a way better deal.. but i dont know if it will work... |
