completely custom heli

howdy-

i am interested in anyone who has advise or experience building a completely custom heli.

i live in the dallas ft. worth texas and i work for one of the 3 main companies responsible for the only production tilt rotor aircraft in existence and i would like to build a scaled down version of that aircraft- the V-22 osprey. i have a lot of the information available including airframe(which i will change to accomodate certain things) but i am a little stuck on the rotor systems... i understand the engineering of it and i was really hoping to be able to buy the rotor system somwhere but i hav not been able to find what i like...

what i am looking for is a 3 blade hub assembly with a cyclic pitch system and all i have found for sale are 2 blade systems. i was wondering if anyone has experience with this or if there is an available kit that i can use...

i have som interesting ideas reguarding this project and i would be interested in seeing what others have to say.

Re: completely custom heli

Hey Chris,

What I can tell you is that as far as I am aware, nobody has sucessfully built a model V22.... YET. I am aware of about 3 projects on the go however.

There are 3 blade rotorheads available, you can get them from various scale places.

Also if you look at the link below, you will no doubt find something of use.

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=456004

From what I understand the biggest problem is transitioning from "helicopter mode" to "plane mode" because if the large gyroscopic forces involved, the fuselage trys to lift itself up to meet the rotors rather than the rotors coming down to meet the fuselage.

Good luck with it, and if you get it working, let me know cos Id love to see a working one.

Take care... Azzy

Try www.rotory.com I have seen photos of an osprey there....looked very good too.

can the full size osprey do an auto rotation? I am very interested in this aircraft....such an amazing concept.

I'd love to see it fly too!!! Keep posted on developement

Hawk - attached article on "revised" specs for the Osprey - unfortunately appears they've eliminated the "need" for autorotate...
