Hello from an old (New) Heli Pilot

Hello this is my first post of I hope many. I started flying RC Heli is the late 80's, shows my age huh. I flew mostly GMP Competitors, Legends and Hirobo Eagles in 60 size Nitro for about 10 years. I did well to learn forward flight and light aerobatics without too many crashes and a bruised ego. I did lots of local club events and even the 92 AMA Nats in Mass. finishing 7th in the Novice class. Work and life got busy and the hobby took the back seat for the better part of 10 years but I'm now revisiting the sport. I would like to get an inexpensive electric Heli to get back into it before I get my 3 Nitro birds out to fly I have checked them over and mechanically they are great but of corse the TX and RX batteries are toast. Getting parts for these old birds is next to impossible but they would keep me entertained till I get something more current. So I what would everyone suggest as good Electric that has some potential.

I also have been flying helis since the eightys and started to get back into helis the new electric helis with brushless motors and lipo batterys are great. About a month ago I got my latest electric of the five I own now and it is the most fun to fly it is a Honeybee fp2 and does it take a beating it is the most durable heli I have ever seen. The best part is you can get it to the door for around $100 this has to be the most bang for the buck out there. Also bp hobbies has the complete air frame for $41 and all the other parts in stock.

If your planning on buying a blade pro go for a Honeybee cp2 its pretty much the same heli but lots less as it goes thru less hands before you get it. It also has a better rotor head than the blade pro and most blade parts fit it at least the ones you might break. Best part is you can get one off flea-bay for 114.00 plus shipping priority to your door in three days. A blade pro is no better than the Honey in fact I think they are made in the same factory in china. Do your self a favor and make a educated buy you won't be disapointed.

A decent simulator is a good idea....this would be good to freshen your memory/reflexes.

I hear good things about the Blade CP....quite tempted to get one....but the choice is quite something....theres plenty of good little helis out there....though I would want a 'serious' transmitter with one.....the cheap one I got for my little twister has a terrible battery case....touch it wrong and it falls off....leaving the batterys to fall out....now whats that all about??

Thats why they make high preformance duct tape to hold the back on your tx battery box. If it works for the nascar boys it should work for you. LOL- Ps isn't a twister a blade any way?

Re: Hello from an old (New) Heli Pilot

Ok, been looking at the TREX 450? I'm thinking I could get the basic kit using the Bell Hiller mix, not the CCPM and use my older Airtronics radio. I know my older TX will not support the new tech stuff but I have this set up in my nitro bird so seting up the mixing isn't a big deal. I will have a few more bucks in this set up, if I can find a RX that will work, but I would have a little nicer platform to work with. What do you think?

Re: Hello from an old (New) Heli Pilot

i have the Trex 450xl and really like it it flies nice.
had to turn the expo down it was a bit touchy. of course i did use longest servo horns.
the Trex is larger than the Blade and also has a belt driven tail. i started with a piccolo years ago and now that ive had a walkera DF60 and now a Trex i dont miss the tail motor burnouts and the bigger heli seems much more stable.
