SIMS Help

ok, so I've downloaded FMS. Looks like a pretty nifty little toy. Question now is, how do I get my controller to hook in to it?
I have the stock Century 6c radio. Trainer output on the back is S-video of all things (I thought it was PS2 - but no...) Century builds a converter that turns it into a serial port. Small rub: no serial port - laptop. Anyone done a conversion to USB from one of these?
My other understanding is that there's no driver for XP on the software. Recommendations?

Thx

Re: SIMS Help

Hi there,

You can get Serial to USB dongles, which will get the signal to your laptop.

http://www.usbgear.com/

Whether it will work through all of this conversion is anybodys guess though.
I dont know FMS but I Would have thought if you can get the tx read as a game controller, then FMS will work with it. Im sure there software to do this.
However with the ammount of money that this is going to cost maybe it would work out only slightly more expensive to get Realflight G2 which I think comes with its own TX. G3 definately does.

Take care... Azzy

Re: SIMS Help

Thanks Azzy,
that doesn't look too bad. Century does "sell" a version of FMS which comes with the S-video-serial converter. Since FMS is shareware, I imagine the 20 US they charge is for the cable. It is specifically compiled by them, so I'll have to find out if it has appropriate drivers for XP. For another 20 to convert ot USB, it's worth a shot.
Don't have the 200 or so to put into a real sim, as at the moment all I have is going into the heli

Re: SIMS Help

It will recognise a game controller....or at least my version did....using a standard serial type joystick worked....but it was very limited ....and defeated the object.

Re: SIMS Help

i use a two stick analog controller like an xbox controller you can get it at walmart or radio shack. You will have to rearrange the number on the calibration dialog box.

Hi:

I got a Logitech Rumblepad to use with the FMS, but it is not recognized by the simulator. What can I do to be able to use this gamepad with FMS?

Thank You.

Re: SIMS Help

What OS are you running?

Apparently with XP there are some issues. Without the right drivers, you need to plug into the serial port. It won't work on USB as I understand it.

I just got a version of FMS last night that's supposed to have the drivers on it for the JR 6201 radio it came with. Supposed to be able to run through the USB port, but I haven't had a chance to install it yet - so not sure if it works.
I'll post tonight with details on whether I get it working.

Re: SIMS Help

Yeah, Mine is XP, and what shows in my system hardware for USB devices plugged in is a "Logitech wheelmouse" when it should be my Logitech Rumble Pad. Don't know if I can plug it to a ps2 connection and then to my PC? I will try tonight, if I can find the connection. Could you give me the link for the version that will take the USB port for the game controller. Thanks.
