Re: Wireless Cameras

Hi there,

Welcome to the forums.

Im no expert on Heli Video but I might be able to help a bit..

There are lots of AV heli rigs available but before suggesting anything, there are some questions that need answered.

Question 1: How much experience have you flying model helis?

Question 2: How much money are you prepared to spend on it.

Question 3: Are you intending to run a buisiness doing Ariel Video/Photography.

If Q1s answer is none, my suggestion is learn to fly them before buying anything because all the Hi-Res camera ships are big, expensive helis.

The answer to Q2 is really the key to this....

Century models make a predator specially converted to the task BUT its going to run you about $3000.00 (this is a guess) without the camera or the radio. If you dont want to spend that much, the quality of the equipment that can be carried will depend on the size of the heli, the bigger, the better. Remember if you are looking to build your own mount, you have to contend with 2 big problems...

1 - vibration, this is a killer, you have the vibration off the engine (if its an IC powered machine) AND the vibration off the drivetrain / blades so you have everything setup really sweet to get good results.

2 - downlink, the wireless connection from the video to the heli is subject to problems from the fact that the heli is moving around in the air quite fast so the signal changes a lot and also the fact that the helis other systems (speed controllers, engine or motor ect) generate a fairly large ammount of electrical noise and therefore interfere with the transmission.

The answer to Q3 really decides your budget, if you are going to use it for buisiness, bear in mind that you MAY also need an operators licence for the thing because it stops being a model helicopter and starts being a UAV.

Hope this helps.... Azzy
