Noob needs help on RC model

I’m as new as the come to this hobby, I have never flown a plane/heli/ or even made a RC car (well ok like 10 years ago I did) and id like a little advice on model selection.

Im looking for an electric model that I can use for some time... beginning to intermediate. I keep reading about use indoors and such, this is not an option for me so id like one that can do reasonable well in low wind conditions. That well give me a full range of flight.. and can handle basic acrobatics. I’m planning on siming first and I have seen lots of models offered with Sims as a package but here’s the kicker I can only spend about 200.00 for this project to start with. If any one knows a decant quality modal that can fit this bill id much appreciate a response.

Re: Noob needs help on RC model

Hi,

If $189.99 is cheap enough for you, mine was $250 USD after replacements, the E-Flite Blade CX should work. It can handle low winds, 3-5 mph, havent tried more. But As far as aerobatics, it cant do inverted flights. It Can do pirouhettes. The blade can hover easily, and ready for flight almost as soon as you charge the 2 cell 800mah Li-Po battery. The manual is easy to understand, and replacements are cheap, and easy to install. It comes with every thing needed except for training gear, which I was told at my lhs not to buy. If you do buy this helicopter, make sure to buy an extra inner shaft with the aluminum head, this is $21 USD but you WILL break the plastic one, it doesnt take very much. Overall this heli is very durable, mine has took 6 foot drops, nose dives, and slamming into trees since I bought it last night.

Hope it helps,
John

Re: Noob needs help on RC model

I bought my first heli a couple of months ago now, a Walkera 22E 7ch 3D collective pitch. i spent $110Au on the heli and postage from ebay was $24Au. Ive seen cheaper since. as for a sim i hear FMS is quite popular or PRE-Flight But my personal favorit is Clear View. Its downloadable and you perchase it for about $30. yeah yeah purchasing a flight sim over the net, as if you would. But ill have to say that its the first game i have ever payed for the unlock code as it has close to 100 extra downloadable aircraft and flying fields and enables you to import .JPGs from your local flying field or from home so you can get the most out of your simulator if you get into it. Also if you have troubles getting you tx to work with the sim you can buy game pads wich have the same basic layout as a tx, just to get comfortable with the control cofigeration. It can be quite confusing at first and difficult trying to concertrate on several different movments at once but if you follow the instructions and are patient and respectfull to your bird it will treat you with the same curisy. Ive been flying for about 1 month now with no previous heli experience and can already hover steadily at altitude and fly foward. and can do circuts.

The Helicopter stock was lacking so i have since added some upgraded parts totaling around about $250 Au But all you need is a li-po with a moderate amperage.

I have only had 1 crash out of about 15 -20 flights but that one crash was under power and did extenssive damage resulting in a replacement heli. So if you want to get into it these electric helis are very cheap to buy initialy i think they make most of there money in the replacement parts so if your going to buy 1 be prepared to pay for 2 if you want to stay flying. This isn't a bubget hobbie it take alota $$$ regardless of how good you are on the simulator it can't really prepair you for Flying the real thing, It'll just give you some coordination with the controls wich is highly pressious, Deffently recomended.

Oh yeah Training Gear is essential... save u $$$$

Re: Noob needs help on RC model

You can't beat a Honey Bee cp2 .... Get them new off of E-bay for about $150.00 with shipping..... And most that own both birds Blade cp and Honey Bee cp2... and i have.... Will say the Honey Bee cp2 is more bang for the money and most of the parts on a Blade cp with fit the Honey bee cp2... I have move on to a Trex... And have sold all my Blade and Honey bee stuff.
I don't think after flying a Trex... I would ever go back to them... They do cost a lot more to start with... And a Blade or Honey bee will let you see if..... You really want to fly helicopters!!!!!! But ,, after you make up your mind ,,, And stop spending ALL THAT MONEY ON SMALL HELICOPTERS. And get a bigger one like the Trex... You will be kicking yourself for not going that way to begin with.... They just don't fly like a good helicopter..
Yes,, I said a good helicopter.... I spent a long time and money trying to make them fly 1/3 rd. as good as a Trex right out of the box....

Re: Noob needs help on RC model

I dont have this helicopter, but if you want something cheaper, $147 USD with transmitter and extra blades after shipping, you could order the Hoverfly from www.snelflight.co.uk Ask Nidrah about this heli, he has one. It doesnt take batteries and just plugs into a wall-outlet so you have unlimited flight time. Supposedly it flies like a .30 heli, so it would make a good trainer. The only reason I didn't buy this is because I can get blade parts from my LHS.

Re: Noob needs help on RC model

No worries M8 good luck with your model and remember, it pays to take a bit of time before you fly to follow the instructions and set up your model properly. Iv'e seen alot of people pull the model out of the box, plug the heli in whilst holding it and not leting the gyro initialize then "sit" on a 90degree angle twisting there bodies "in front" of the model and wonder why its so hard to fly and then complain about braking parts from hard landings or roll overs and this guy im talking about wasn't even using a training skid. and to finish it off he even posted it on a site a 10 min vid of painfully destroying his heli ending in frustration. (Hard to watch)
