| Scale Bell 230 Electro for beginner? I am new to RC Helo's and I'm the kind of person that if I'm going to get something I want the biggest and baddest there is. That said, is it a bad idea to get the Bell 230 Electro Scale helicopter as my first RC Helo? I've done alot of research on most of the types of RC's out there and it seems that the smaller you go the harder it is to control and learn. On the other hand the bigger you go the more expensive and dangerous it becomes. Now before you talk about space and approved fields let me tell you that I live in the country and "we aint got nothin but space"! For those that don't know what I am talking about go to: http://www.v-eastonline.com/linkroom.html I think the NH-90 Turbine is alot more than I want to take on right now, and I don't want to fool around with mechanics all day. What do you think? |

| Re: Scale Bell 230 Electro for beginner? I for one can understand your thought process, but I'll tell you what thats one giant step for one man! It might be a bit harder to fly some of the smaller models but I'm reading that moving up in stages is the most sencible route and then to a certain extent the flying gets easier whilst the maintenance and setting up gets harder. And I'd hate to see a model like that getting busted as often as novices around here have "little accidents"! It has to a balance. Get the biggest and best model you can afford but bear in mind it may cost you twice that amount to keep it flying until you are competent. Getting a model and all the bits is just the start.

| Re: Scale Bell 230 Electro for beginner? Hey Johnny I know it won't be easy, but I've always been that kind of person that doesn't like to ask for directions when lost, try to fix things around the house I have no business fooling with, trying to install parts on my car that I know the dealer should only do...so I guess you can say I like to do things the hard way. Sometimes the best way to find your way around is to get lost! ![]() |

| Re: Scale Bell 230 Electro for beginner? Well if thats the it's going to be......Lol ... I'm similar I suppose. I'm looking at a T-Rex SE in the near future with a scale fuse and I can hardly fly my little 22E. But then if there is a good gasser about at the right time I might just ........ Bearing in mind that a scale body only makes it look pretty and costs a small fortune. How about getting a good pod/ boom and do the scale thing after you've masterd it? Might save you some cash? I'm into the modeling and building as much as the flying so going scale is an obvious choise for me.

| Re: Scale Bell 230 Electro for beginner? Well that's the thing about hobbies...they are always going to be expensive, no matter what it is (whether it's time or money). Personally I think that a hobby that doesn't cost much either way, really isn't much of a hobby! I'm just like you..I like to build the scale models so I can have more of an understanding of the vehicle, and the wow factor when people see this enormous thing for the first time. I was amazed the first time I saw this particular helicopter on the web site. I had no idea that they were so big and sounded just like the real thing. Plus, you really can't call these "toys" as my wife or some others might Criticize. Now that I think about it...I probably would get the Turbine engine sometime down the road after becomming proficient with the electric. Although it would be nice to have an indoor model to screw around with around the house at the same time. Do you have any suggetions on cheap but fairly good quality indoor RC's? |
