New to heli, this an OK buy?

http://www.hobby4less.com/prod_heli_df4.htm

i don't want to drop too much on my first heli. I've never even had an RC car before . All the ones i have seen for cheaper can't for forward and backward (i think? the cheap 35$ eBay ones). would this guy work ok? if not, are there any others in the same price range that would be better?

thanks a lot for your help.

edit: oh yeah, i looked on the sticky about "which heli," but the are all in the 200$+ range. that's a bit too much for me.

Re: New to heli, this an OK buy?

Hi there tg

Welcome to the forums.

Well I took a look at your link and it the heli looks like another hummingbird clone. So it will no doubt be okay to dip your toe in the water with, how well put together or how good the electronics are is anybodys guess. You need to be aware that you are gonna need spares for this (you will crash it) so it would be wise to check their availability before comminting any money to it.

Unfortunately this is a hobby which proves beyond all doubt that there is no such thing as a free lunch and the cost of a model heli is 99% of the time bourne out in the quality of it.

You might be better to check out a simulator such as realflight G2, or something like that as these will allow you to try flying helis without the associated costs of repairing them. If you have lots of fun then 200$ is gonna be less of a pill to swallow.

Good luck whatever way you choose.... Azzy

Re: New to heli, this an OK buy?

hey man was up?

I actually hav this exact heli it flys right out of the box(after check all is tight and swash plate is level also check flybar is aligned) I have had lots of fun trying to get a good hover which i can now. It's very hard to fly in the wind so indoor (garage) or calm day is best make sure you get training gear. I have crashed numerous times from different heights and different speeds it will take a pretty good beating. I have replaced main blades 2x and rotor head core 2x one servo. its not perfect but i like it for my first heli. i have fms simulator which is a must to at least use to get the jist of what the heli will do with the different inputs. I bought my heli from the same place. I had no problems with them except high shipping costs. Check this link out there are some other option here http://www.grandhobby.com but i've only purchased from helihobby.com and hobby4less.com.Good luck
