| Century Hawk Pro/Futaba radio setup questions Hawk Pro & Futaba setup
This is my first post on this website and I need help!!!
As a fairly new heli pilot, I am winging this on my own, save for the help of another RC buddy who is a little farther ahead in flight than I am. I am fairly comfortable with my electric heli (Dragonfly), and have just flown my Hawk Pro today (for a short time) on her/my maiden voyage.
The Hawk Pro is a heli I got on sale at our club's last swap meet, that came with an almost-new OS .37 installed. I added a Futaba GY-401 gyro, the digital Futaba servo (I think a 9253) for the rudder, and a new Futaba T6EXHP radio. After setting up the radio according to the instruction book as best I could, I took the Hawk to the field today and actually got it up.
The heli spooled up well with good blade tracking and no shaking. Other than having the rudder servo reversed (which I have since corrected), the only trouble I noticed was that while very slowly and carefully spooling up, the heli would suddenly rise up vertically, after which I would drop the throttle/pitch stick a tick or to to bring it back down (which was also a sudden drop). This went on for several attempts to slowly bring the heli up. It seemed like there was a very fine line between sitting on the ground and darting skyward. I even tried raising the throttle/pitch stick to a high level and easing it into a hover with the trim, but could never get it to lift off just be adjusting the trim. What's going on?
I checked and nothing is binding in the head. It appears that maybe I did not get the throttle or pitch curves setup correctly. I did just as the book says: points 1 thru 5 on each of the curves setup at 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%. Is this correct or do I need to setup another way?
One other thing that I thought of that I didn't try was to crank it up with the throttle hold on and set at 35%, and slowly ease the pitch up. Would this help to ease the heli up, or do I need to go back and re-set the throttle and pitch curves to another setting?
Thanks in advance for your help, and I look forward to becoming a regular part of this forum.
