Shuttle vs Raptor

When I first started looking at heli's some years ago, the Shuttle was the definate recommended first machine. Has this been replaced by the Raptor?

And if so why? Easier to setup, package included, or purely to fly?

Re: Shuttle vs Raptor

Hi Neil,

Well you are sort of right. The direct replacement for the shuttle is now the Hirobo (shuttle) Sceadu Evo which is a really nice heli (I would say that though cos Ive got one and Im biased lol). If you compare them directly there isnt really much to choose between the Sceadu and the Raptor (its competition) The only real differences are as follows....

The Raptor is a tad cheaper.
The Sceadu is slightly bigger (the 30 and 50 Sceadus using the same airframe)
When I bought mine, I took advice from the model shop and the club and 4 out of 5 of the experts (and trust me these ppl really are experts) recommeded the Sceadu.

Basically, they are both fine helis and either one will serve you well.

Hope this helps... Azzy

Re: Shuttle vs Raptor

Raptors are quite tough from what I hear....I own a Hawk Sport which is 30 size....tough and easy to fix too....the main frames are not as brittle as some helis which has a lot to do with surviving a bad crunch and writing the machine off.

I have a Sceadu 30 size.....I built it ages ago but am still flying the hawk....I plan to fit an OS 37 with some decent servos and possibly a gyro that can be switched from one gain to another.....though the CSM 200 in my hawk has been great so far.

The servos in the Hawk are s148's which do the job but there is some play with the servo output shafts. The Sceadu has a lack of slop and play around the rotor head...being fully ballraced I guess...so some nice servos are a must.

You can still get the shuttle....but for some extra cash the Evo is a much better machine....I cant wait to try it out. Dont get me wrong....the Hawk has been great fun and has got me a lot of airtime including some inverted flight.

I realise I have digressed....the Raptor is very popular. But if folk advise on a better performing machine with good parts support then it pays to heed the advice.

I personally dont like the look of the Raptor....its the canopy that puts me off...sounds silly I know....the Shuttle just looks 'right' something like 300:000 shuttles have been sold around the world within its history....its quite a success story.

Good luck with whatever you choose....as long as it gets you flying
