Unhappy First day

Hello I just registered today. I have purchased a Walkera Dragonfly 4 Ver 3 and have read on this forum that it will probably be unflyable. I hope this isn't true since I have wanted a heli for a very long time but until my neighbor purchased one (same). I hope that I will at least be able to fly it for a while until I can puchase a collective pitch. I would appreciate any and all comments.
P.s. It's not here yet so I can't even try it for myself
Thanks

Re: First day

Best bit of advice I can give is "get a simulator for your pc". I saved myself loads of cash by gettting familiar with the controls of a heli, without actually flying a heli. The number of "virtual" crashes I've had has more than made up for the cost of the program.

Oh, and welcome, it's an addictive hobby.

Re: First day

Hiya,

Welcome to helifever (both liretally and metaphorically lol)
Ive just looked up the dragonfly 4 and although I cant be sure, I think you'll find that it'll fly just fine. I have heard of and seen problems with the Collective pitch Walkeras, but yours is fixed pich so you should be ok.

As far as advice goes, do like WykeWing says, get a sim because it WILL pay for itself. If you cant resist trying your heli before you get a sim try to remember the following..

1. If you just go out and give it stick, you will crash for sure.

2. Learn from the ground up. By that I mean, for the first couple of battery charges, just skid it about a smooth floor check out RADDs school of rotary flight. It DOES help. http://www.dream-models.com/eco/flying-index.html. Doing this will get you a feel for the heli

3. As they get lighter on the skids, they dont just lift straight up which takes a lot of folks by surprise. They will always want to go somewhere you dont (Usually to the left) you will need to be ready to compensate.

Hope some of this helps... Azzy

Re: First day

Thanks guys, supposedly it comes with a cable for the tx and a link to download a sim. yeah my neighbor has the same and his broke a servo gear before ever getting off the ground, then while he was waiting for the part he was playing around with the tx dip switches and didn't realize the heli was switched on and gave it full throttle in his bedroom. So I guess you know what happened...Straight into the wall stripping the main rotor gear and chipping a main blade and breaking off a paddle..OOPPSS. So i will try to learn from others mistakes..lol
