Smile Any advice for a new Raptor 50 V2 Pilot

Hi,

I am in the process of purchasing a Raptor 50 V2 (incl OS 50 motor) with Heading hold Gyro, JR 6102 Radio and a flight simulator. Do you have advice for me ? Im can fly fixed wing but this is my first heli. I learnt to fly mode 2, would I need to learn mode 1 to fly my heli ? Any other advice would also be greatly appreciated. Thanx.

John.

Re: Any advice for a new Raptor 50 V2 Pilot

Hi John,

First welcome to the forums.

The R50 is a nice heli and will serve you well,

The first advice Id give you and Im not the only one in here that will lol, is first BEFORE you fly the heli, practice on the sim.

the second piece of advice is that flying a heli is very different to a fixed wing. Especially in the first stages this is for a number of reasons, 1st Ive heard fixed wing ppl tend to fly on the right stick (Mode 1 lol) and once the throttle is set the left stick gets ignored. On a heli, both sticks are in constant use. 2nd the tail doesnt have to follow the nose which can make orientation a bit of an experience. There are some big advantages over planes though, if you stuff up, bring the beast into a tail in hover also you get as many goes at landing as you need, no need to plan an approach.

3rd If you can find a club to set test fly and check out your machine. They'll no doubt be happy to help teach you as well.

I am sure its possible to have a heli in mode 2 (there is a guy at my club in the UK flys mode 2 which is a shame because he is a great pilot and Id like to learn from him but he cant fly my heli and I cant fly his lol).

Well thats about it for me

Good luck with it... Azzy

Thanx Azzy for the advice.

I plan to fly the sim for at least 3-4 months before I start with the Raptor, I will probably join a club and find an instructor to teach me. Here in Cape town there are quite a few guys flying helis.

Do you know of any web site that is dedicated to the Raptor 50 ?

John

Re: Any advice for a new Raptor 50 V2 Pilot

dont crash it. i just learnt that one the hard way.
crash = time + money, and we all know that time is money so ill simplfy the equation to

crash = money2 (couldnt find the squared symbal)

lol then you get to take into account that its a nitro so that means more time and more money. so you get

crash = money3 (couldnt find the cubed symbal either)

Re: Any advice for a new Raptor 50 V2 Pilot

Stick with mode 2
Most fliers use mode two on heli's

I dont specifically know of any dedicated Raptor sites other than
http://www.raptortechnique.com/index.html

the best bit of advice that i can give you is don't be afraid to turn the tail
Most Plane fliers tend to only use the rudder occasionaly,,On a heli its very important to move the tail LOL

The nose in aspect is the same just use the disc as you would the wingtips

When setting up your heli set it up Mechanically for its full Positive and negative Pitch range and Adjust it on your TX if its a computer type to give you around 9 at the positive end and -2 -3 on the ngative... if not then you will have to limit the negative side to no more than -2 or -3 degrees Mechanically (pain in the backside ) otherwise you run the risk of when you chop the throttle having a boom strike when you hit the ground to hard

As has already been mentioned fly the sim and get the heli checked over by some competent pilots before it's flown and above all Have fun

Roger
