Wink lubrication?

What does everyone use or not use? I have been using the precision oiler from radio shack. Its a good light oil with teflon I use that on bearings, Metal to metal contact areas, bushings and some plastic to metal contact areas. Then for just abouty everything else (except electronics!!!!! Its conductive)
I use dry graphite lube It works real good on ball joints, Plastic to Plastic contact areas and some metal to plastic contact areas!!! I know some people say don't use anything but thats not what I was taught. Mechanical things need lube!!! I got 10 to 12 minute run times with my stock NiMh batts on a GWS dragonfly!! When most people say you get 8 minutes!!! So what does everyone think. OHHH YEAHH First post by the way!!!!!!!!!

Re: lubrication?

toofastgt,

For metal to metal contact like the swash plate or the tail rotor, I use petroleum base lubricant w/teflon (Tri-Flow), works like a champ! As for my bearnings, I use syntetic hydrocabron grease. Helps reduse rust and keeps them running smooth. The grease is made by Miniture Aircraft USA.

Question Re: lubrication?

I don't think I would recommend a grease for anything but an rc transmission
or servo gears. It would induce too much drag!! Grease is just a carrier for oil it holds the oil in suspension and at a certain temperture it releases (NLGI #) the oil to lubricate. Why add the thickeners and soap base which all adds drag to a contact point!! Think about a turbo most use a fluid bearing which is the engine oil if you put grease on the bearing surface it would take forever to spin up or not at all!!! Do you know what the Nlgi number is for that grease? I might need to get some for my rc truck tranny. I have been using 00 rated grease maybe even thats too thick!!! ,but I do get it for free!!! actually I would say its cheap so it probably meets the minimum for that rating because it drops real quick and dries out pretty frequent about 3 quarts of fuel and I have to take the tranny part and regrease it!! Well it all boils down to each his own. I was wondering what other people are doing for their birds!! Have you tried it with light oil only on the bearings versus run time with the grease? Maybe when I get new bearings I will try it out with the old bearings before I change them out!!

I use nothing but Silicon , varies in thickness viscosities, I use thin for ball joints and thick for bearing grease. Silicon does NOT erode plastic.

Re: lubrication?

Any type of wet lube will attract dust, downwash lifts dust, dust sticks to the lube, heypresto, grinding paste. keep it clean or have premature wear.
