Re: Fuel Question That is nice to know I been using 30% in mine just got 25% my step dad says that percent of nitro is because heli need more cooling we fly planes alot but new to these heli's kind of. Is that true? I see you guys saying I can use 15% and that would be nice because of costs lol.

Re: Fuel Question Shanee, I 've talked to people at my club and at two local hobby shops. The general reasoning i've learned for running 30 percent is the performance.. I kinda figured that, but I am not sure as of the performance they are speaking of. So I investigated further, and what I have come up with is this... (Although I will still have people with me that know what they are doing... I would suggest this to anyone that is a rookie at tuning engines like me) Get a heat sensor to check the temperature of your head as soon as you kill the engine on a nice idle 1up flight... I'm sure your aware that it needs to be around 200 degrees farenheit or in that neighborhood.. Adjust the fuel mixture as needed to get it to that point. If you are flying heavy 3d where you need the performance, then just keep the 30 percent fuel.. But I am just flying forward flight and I am doing no 3d at the moment. Hell who am I kidding, I'm really still just at hovering and maybe a babystep forward flight.. So I may be wrong in the advice I'm giving. But I will let you know definitely by this weekend because I will get one gallon of 15 percent and give it a shot on Saturday. I still have 2 gallons of 30 to burn til then... Jeff P.S. I may be wrong on the advice, I'm just kinda going on what I've been told and read, and will confirm any if all on Saturday nights posting..

Re: Fuel Question I am aware that you can use 15% probably 10% but according to my step dad the reason for that higher nitro in helicopters is because they get hot alot more then planes because planes have air going over them. So I am not sure if I put 15% if I could run several tanks in my heli without it over heating with that low of nitro any idea? I know he maybe used to the old helis and I noticed mine has a cooling fan so that may help not sure.

Re: Fuel Question So today..I found out that friend of mine that has been fly 30 percent fuel switched to 15 percent recently. He switched back yesterday because of lack in performance. I realize that it is 8 bucks cheaper a gallon, but I'll feel good knowing that if i need the power, it will be there. I also heard that about the power shanee and what you said the temperature. I bought a venom heat sensor today and it was hummin around 185...I gonna lean it out one more click tommorow and see where it stands. I was flying it originally around 150 degrees...That is why my tanks of feul were only lasting less than 10 minutes on my raptor 30...My last tank this afternoon was almost 10 minutes and i still had 1/4 tank.. Seems to fly at a higher headspeed too... Jeff

Re: Fuel Question The nitro content boosts the overall power....the main difference between heli fuel and plane fuel is the oil content....plane fuel can be used but the oil content needs boosting up a little.....first find the percentage of oil in the plane fuel....then add the other percentage to make up the difference. eg plane fuel has 18% oil....heli fuel has 22% not much difference is there? so you can add the oil to bring it up. I tried adding some synthetic oil to plane fuel once.....it wouldnt mix at all....but there are oils out there that do mix....Klotz is one make I have heard of. Some flyers mix their own fuel....but the ingredients are probably in bulk. I went to a gasser because getting nitro is such a pain in the *** where I live.....I like nitro .....but shipping costs plus the price per litre just dont make sense to me anymore. Rob
