Probs with OS 32 engine

Hi folks, I have a bit of a prob with my os 32 engine on a Caliber 30 heli.
It starts fine with plenty of oil and smoke coming out of muffler, but when I disconnect the glow plug the engine dies. I've no idea where to start, I've leaned out the mixture screw from 2 turns to 1.5 turns to 1 turn with no joy, the engine still cuts out when plug is taken off. the response from radio is good, it revs up fine with plug on.I'm using an OS#8 new glow plug.15% nitro fuel. Any help would be a great help.

Cheers...P

Re: Probs with OS 32 engine

What about the idle setting...this is located within the rotating throttle barrel assy....its a small screw that affects the mixture from idle up to 50 % power...and even slightly above that.

If this setting is rich then you will get excess fuel on the plug.

Try this

Idle the engine....and pinch the fuel tube...about 3 to 4 cms back fro mthe carb....if the revs pick up after 2 seconds then your tuning is about right....if you are waiting longer then its rich...if the revs pick up straight away then you are too lean.

Be careful doing this...keep a good grip on the rotor head....the revs will pick up enough to slightly engage the clutch...but the revs should die out too...let go the tubing and adjust the idle if needed.

I am not sure about the glo plug....is it the correct grade? I use Enya # 3 plugs....which seem to work ok for me.

I have the same engine.....its been a great performer so far....its certainly worth spending money on a good quality engine.

Let me know how you get on.

Rob

Re: Probs with OS 32 engine

The o.s 8 plug is fine for that engine..Check your idle setting on the transmitter and as stated above check your idle mixture screw turn it by the smallest of amounts as it is very sensitive. id start by returning the mixture screws back to the factory settings and raiseing the idle until it runs without the glow warmer on then adjust your mixtures from there..Cheers

Re: Probs with OS 32 engine

You might do the old "pinch test" to check the idle mixture. Possibly it's too rich. Or try another new plug... the one you have might be substandard.

You can also go here and see the manuel. Might save a lil bit of copying.
