Re: next heli ?????

Raven 50 eh? I like the prices of Centurys Helis.....sort of sensible prices and the helis seem rugged....no nonsense....and easy on the eye...and pocket too if your pride and joy gets 'dinged'

Still messing around with my faithfull little Hawk, got into rearranging the collective pitch settings...aiming for the same hovering point in all 'modes' .......I was spending some time inverted the other day.....its one thing on the simulator.....quite another in real life:-)

The new pitch settings have given the Hawk a new lease of life, its awsome and handles much better than before.

Got +9 deg...top stick.....0 deg mid stick and -9 bottom stick in all modes.

Might revise it later though, just got some help from another site belonging to Mike Mas.....www.rotory.com really good site....I have the same hawkman name there.....I like this site as well...there are more newbies here...I like trying to help them.....I well remember whats it like when starting out:-)

THIS THING IS STILL SLAPPING- every now and then it will out of the blue give me 2-4 violent slaps and then usually stop- thats when i land- tried to adjust the gyro, have it set clear down to 35 % to the point that it wanders ever in hh mode- note the slap got more violent after the 9254 was installed, im thinking that was because the servo is almost twice as fast and causing it to move farther on the slap before catching itself.
It Sounds to me as if you're Hawk's Tail wire drive is winding up every now and then. this unfortunatly is a known side effect of using a wire drive tail Hence the move to belts and torque tubes The faster Servo will make this condition more violent
On my Hawks if i fly scale like I never see this problem but on one of them if i wind the head speed up and try a bit of stick banging then i can cause the wire to wind up and this causes the tail to kick

The remedy is to try and be a bit smoother on the controls and lower the head speed a bit or upgrade to a torque tube drive and then the Problem goes away LOL

I would have opted for the Raven as well But i would leave the bling off untill you get used to the feel of it
Its a much more responsive heli than the Hawk and it will fly very well straight out of the box

Re: next heli ?????

This is for gasmech. Jimco here.. I had a very strange thing happen to my Patriot Raptor 50. I had a hot start, due to idle up being on, and not paying attention. Naturally, replaced the clutch fiber, put everyone back to gether.
Fired it up, flew as good as ever. Ran it for maybe one tank. Put it up. Next day, fired it up again, and could not get off the ground. Tail would not hold at all, even with full left rudder. Brought it in the shop and charted checking. Found that the gear lash was very tight. Motor had shifted, guess, due to not being tight enough. Reset gear lash, flew like a new heli. Excess vibration was causing gyro to let go, I guess. That was all it took, no problem since, in over 20 flights.
