Re: next heli ?????

Could be a drivetrain problem.

Check the clutch isnt slipping....check its 'gap' you dont need much clearence between shoes and clutch liner

Check the liner is stuck properly, it might be slipping

Check the drive cogs, make sure nothing is coming adrift

Check the main cog, is the 'one way bearing' ok?????? if its slipping it might be occassional.....strip, clean and lightly oil before putting back together

Is there any interference? if you have moved the tail servo to its new position its unlikely to cause problems.

You asked about the gyro, and adjustment? if the gyro is heading hold you will never be able to adjust the 'end point' you would need to unplug the gyro...and plug the tail servo into the receiver direct.....then you will have adjustment.

I have a feeling that no matter what you do, the gyro will still take up all available servo movement.....so its important to make sure NOTHING can 'bind' ie the pushrod travelling too far and breaking something like the tail control bellcrank......if enough pressure is there due to a struggling servo...plus vibration....the tail control pushrod (this is what yo uhave fitted right?) can easily pop off the ball link......you dont want that:-(

Double check the gyro instructions, they should tell you about servo travel etc.

The other guy on this thread, Blackhawk, mentions hovering without the gyro......try it...its a good point........but be very very careful......its tempting to move forwards etc......but you are entering a whole new realm....because those torque changes will make your heli unpredictable....with a sudden tendency to flip over.....due to gyroscopic forces...and ...errrrrr.......errrmmmmm......BLACK MAGIC.

I have been there and tried it, my gyro mode was all messed up...my fault...I had been tinkering with a simulator....and forgot what mode I was in...my gyro was 'home' but it was useless....it made for interesting flying....I did some circuits and landed. My mouth was dry with fear....but I was elated too....I went to hover again then my Hawk flipped over smashing a brand new set of carbon blades:-0

So be careful, you will respect the humblest of gyros once you have experienced flying without one.

Re: next heli ?????

My Hirobo shuttle does this everynow & then usually after some aggresive flying (like stall turns or something similar). I use a CSM 400HH BTW.

Mine is all down to low voltage from the onboard battery pack, think its a duff one or on its way out.First 3-4 flights will be fine but then it will suddenly just slap its tail about a bit,I land check it over, take off & its fine again until I do something tail rotor sensitive.
Talking of which how long is normal to charge the onboard battery (its a hitec 4.8v pack) ?
Was looking at the resistor idea so I could just use a Li-Po like a few of the guys in the club do.Also I'm new to nitro helis (actually new to helis in general) but whats the advantage of the header tank?

Re: next heli ?????

Header tank always stays full and prevents air (bubbles-foaming) from getting from large tank to engine while doing maneuvers. Also when large tank empty it gives you extra fuel. Fuel goes from large tank, to header tank, to carb. You fill through the header, to large tank.

Re: next heli ?????

Battery charging? I charge for a good 12 hours or so on a trickle charger....the charger supplied with my radio/receiver pack.....the batterys are Ni Cads.

Its well worth buying a special charger, so you can charge more quickly.....mine is powered of a 12 volt car battery....its awesome because I can be charged up in an hour or so if the day is nice, and I have forgot to trickle charge the night before. So....you can sit down....scoff your breakfast...and be content in the knowledge that you will be soon ripping the heavens apart with you fire breathing awsome rotory beast.....theres nothing worse than waiting for a trickle charger to charge.

Be prepared to pay good money for such a charger, they are not cheap....but once you get one you will wonder why you didnt get one before.....sort of like a 'realisation' moment ;-)

I have a header tank, its a good peice of kit but only needed for harsh and constant aerobatics.....but it does allow that extra bit of fuel load so...

standard tank+header tank=more fuel

with pythagoras=hyp$ sin//////cos;;;;;;;plus tangents x 2.00998475632

errrr??????;-)sorry about that....right...simply put....more fuel, more air time, more happiness/bliss and relaxation.....= a state of heli nirvana

Fit one.

Re: next heli ?????

hey everyone;

thanks for all the replies and posible remedies. thouhgt that i would update you on the next heli virdict.

i went with the RAVEN 50 w/ the os 50 sx-h hyper. ive allready got the hyper now just waiting on the raven(back-ordered till the end of the month.) ive even got some bling for it as well. cant wait to lay it out on the table and get started. ive heard alot about the power of the hyper, ill probably set it up with a TJ pro to keep it in check.also looking at the fromeco battery setup and s9252 servos to make it move.from what everyone has said it should be a little more stable than the hawk with twice the power.

as for the tail problem, still happening! although i havent checked my clutch assembly yet like HAWKMAN suggested, but that is next on the list of things to do. ive checked and adjusted everything else that you can think of.oh well ill get it sooner or later, eventually ill have to run out of things to check.

Re: next heli ?????

hey black hawk, the jr 50 is the arf kit minus radio gyro and engine, of course.
but you still need a set of 600mm blades for about 75. to 80 dollars.
the web site is horizon .com i think that is still pretty good deal.i found the 50 hyper for 209.00 at tower hobbies.
