Sad loss of a heli...AWOL

Hi there, heard a story just the other day of a Guy who lives locally. He had a Nexus 30 SS which is the same as my first heli...so I have a fondness for this heli.

I think the Guy dusted his Nexus and went to go fly.

It went up.....and up....and up...and up....up and away. It never came back.

Last seen as a tiny dot which was getting smaller, the wind was a light westerly...the Town is on the east side of east Falkland...so it might well have come down in the South Atlantic.

Its funny in a way, but really sad as well....maybe a fitting end?

Sounds like the RX battery was down, could well have been. Its worth checking out failsafes thats for sure.

It would have been neat to find out how high it went...and where it came down. My Nexus could easily run for 20 mins on a tank..this was using an MDS 38..a rubbish engine to some...but matched the Nexus really well.

Maybe check with the airlines, they might have spotted it on the way out to sea.LOL
Really what a nightmare! Check those batteries or this could happen to anybody. Although I don't nave a problem with the south Atlantic I could put one in a major river like the Missouri and then it might make it to Hawkman in a couple of hundred years.(:

Sad though, its probably sitting on the ocean floor now.

Yes it does got to show...either look after those batterys or else fit/activate a failsafe.

Hi Rob,
How's the Trex? I built up a W37 with a 450xl tail, 430l and 30 amp esc with Align 325mm blades and it is WILD!
Compared to my 36 it is jet propelled. I can barely control it but I'm getting more used to it daily.

Welcome to the wacky world of the Trex!!! Its a great heli, mine is going well...I was doing loops with it on Christmas Eve...and then did some piro/stall turn type moves...and ended up crashing...glitched at low level.

Walked up to where she lay, landed on long grass which cushioned the blow...Heli was unbroken save for a slight bend on the flybar....blades were folded back.

2 minutes later,,,up again but with some more careful flying

I use the 325 plastic blades, quite heavy but very tough.

I added an extra o ring either side of the feathering shaft, this stiffened the head up a lot...tracking stays put and response is a little bit more crisp.

I fly mine a lot, a light to moderate breeze is ok. I fly at work...football pitch...in the evenings...the only improvement I can think of is..get another couple of chargers and an extra battery...to take it up to 4 batterys

I have four batteries but I wear out in two! One on the 37. It's just too intense right now but I'll get it, Just need practice.

i wonder, lets say that when you crash, the blades break usually and alot of the force of the crash just goes with the broken blades, now if you have hardened blades, wouldnt the force go more into the shaft? i personally like using easier to break blades on my slow stick, i think it lessens shaft damage

I have found that the heavier plastic blades reduce the damage to the head and shaft because they don't stop instantly when they hit something and they don't fly apart sending the head out of balance. I have crashed full speed into the ground with only minor damage to the feathering shaft so I have tested this pretty well.
