bird strike any one??

Has any one hit a bird with their helicopter before? It did not long ago. It happened one saturday morning I had two work mates come watch me fly, and they were asking loads of questions. one said to me as a seagul was flying over the pad, could you keep up with that, I was flying the oppossite way at the time, so I turned sharp and in a few seconds was right along side the seagul, as I had made my point I was just about to turn back round when it put its head in the blades and lost the top of it right away. it came down like a stone, I landed and all that was wrong with the raptor 90 was a bent fly bar and a paddle out of line. We went over to the seagul to check it was dead and his brain was hanging by his spinal cord and the top of head was hanging by the side of its neck. yes he was dead. we put it the ditch so the fox in the area could have a free meal. My name is Stephen, my mates now call me stephan segal (the actor)

Re: bird strike any one??

That must have been a sight to see but thats bad for the bird. But like I haven't killed a bird or two before but still sounds bad. Anyway good flying if you landed your heli with a bent flybar and that without crash maybe it wasn't that bad?

Re: bird strike any one??

I went over to my uncle's house last saturday. He has a Axe CP he is getting pretty good with and he wanted to check out my TrexV2. He lives in a private neighborhood where front yards are big enough to fly in! Anyway I was flying the 450 for a few minutes when a HUGE hawk flew right over my head and went after my helicopter! It was intent on killing my heli. You know how big a 450 is well this hawk's wingspan was at least 3 times bigger than my heli. I mean its body was bigger than the canopy and fuse by a BIG margin. Biggest hawk I have ever seen. He went straight for my heli right before he grabbed it i went full power and it scared him I guess. So my uncle and friends were like HOLY *@!% did you see that! They told me to chase the hawk I thought about my heli coming contact with a bird that big and decided against it, not to mention it would definitely injure that awesome bird. So the hawk flies back around and perches on my uncles roof. I landed a little distracted and watched the hawk. He just sat there looking at us. So my uncle decides to fly is little AXE. Sure enough the hawk dives of the top peak of the house and takes out my uncles AXE. Between the hawk and the ground it is done! LMAO The hawk was ok let go if it when the blades got him and then flew off. SO AMAZING! Thats one aggressive hawk uh? I mean most of the ones I see are half that size and are getting chased by mockingbirds. I wish I had a camera! I will probably never see that ever again.

I worry about that happening all the time. Do you think that a seagull would take out a raptor 30, because they are always flying by mine and i don't want to kill a seagull or have a seagull take out my heli. Thankfully they haven't been brave enough to get to close. I guess its loud enough to scare them off.

Re: bird strike any one??

no sorry in my strike i came up from behind with a 90 to show a mate that the 90 raptor could keep up with a bird and the seagul put his head in to the blades so yes you could get a strike if the gul want to check you out. i only had a paddle bent up but if the gull had caught the blades the out come might of been different. the problem is helies don't have wings so gull don't see a bird so they got to have a look see. i you fly high and fast like i do watch those suicide gulls.

Re: bird strike any one??

I taught myself to flt fixed wing aircraft by chasing wood pigeons, cut the tail feathers off of one once, but normally they are so fast in a turn, great way to learn though
