Angry my first loop and roll with a raptor 50

It all started my wife wanted to go to see family back in Crewe Cheshire over xmas. last year. I had being flying a raptor for about two months and my mate, that started the to learn to fly his raptor had being learning two weeks longer than me, had done his first loop and roll two days before this. I had gone to my local model shop and got the guy to set up my raptor for 3d and set off to spend the holiday with my inlaws. soon as we got there i was off to the play grounds in the middle of the town where i knew that there was a small flying club active. i had a fly but did not try any 3d but enjoyed the large amount of pitch i now had. boxing day came and i was out there on the field and this time i was going for it. with heart beating like mad and fingers shaking i went for my first loop, yes did it, not that hard i thought and did a few more. now for the roll, over she went took up a lot of sky to get it back upright but i had done it, by now i was shaking so bad that i had got to land to carm my self down. while on the ground three lads came up and started asking questions about it and one said," does it do loops, well loops i could do so with out says any more reved up and was in a high hover, dropped the pitch and the nose pulled it over and got a great loop. " what about a roll" the lad said, so i did, and my raptor went over to the inverted but then i noticed the revs had gone down as well and she was dropping out of the sky very fast. I was still in normal mode inverted on tickover. the rest of the story was too painful to write down. £175 of pain in bits to put it back to gether, now i never fly around in normal mode so i have got the neg. pitch and throttle to do that roll that she did not come out of at crewe. The lads did not even help me to pick up the bits.

Thumbs up Re: my first loop and roll with a raptor 50

I never leave the ground in normal mode now. I have set up mode one so low level flight is smooth and even invert is nice and mode two is full 3d mad. but i tend to fly about in mode one most of the time.

Yea I haven't tryed with my Hawk Pro 30 yet but it isn't set for upside down yet. But I will set it soon and try it. But I do a whole lot on realflight G3 and I never go off of stunt mode and do loops you name it fine. Still a bit scared to try with mine and havent even got face in down yet in real life or scared to do it because did low face in hover a few times and last time I did it was Christmas showing off did a bit more then that flew face in and came at me and family and panic brought it down and it tilted and opps wrong way and crash. I mess up even on planes when I panic or I would have been fine probably. But I can do it on real flight fine sometimes mess up but up high and can fix. But not much anymore. But back to what I was saying I have a blade cp to and I have flown it in stunt mode was very easy and if I get it on my heli will fly with it all the time probably. But dang cp is been a brat lately lol was trying to get it worked to do inverted with it first but keeps spinning since new 3and1. Had it hover in house and something happened I think skid may have broke I glued lol and it flipped and it broke once again . I am thinking of giving up with it I would prefer to fly my hawk pro. But sorry to hear but things happen to all even me lol.

yes the small helicopters can be difficult to fly smooth but if you can get a bigger one they fly better. to help you with the panic thing i teach here in the uk and i tell all my students to have a plan in mind for when things go wrong. Like when you fly nose in, thats what we all it in the uk, you at the blade disc and put your stick to the low side that will keep it flat later when you feel better you can start to move it about, but that first time only hover nose in and then spin back to tail in to get back in control try this link to utube its me flying my 90 raptor its a bit out of focus but you can see what i mean about hovering nose in http://youtube.com/watch?v=2dFsYlmljck

Re: my first loop and roll with a raptor 50

Good point about the lads not helping pick up the bits.....always remember this...never feel that you have to impress...most bystanders will be impressed that you can fly an RC heli...this is usually enough.

Know what you mean about increased heart rate and trembly fingers...I have had that a few times...you will get this as you push yourself that bit further.....if it gets too much just back off a bit and fly normally..always keep plenty of height and try to put a 'get out plan' in place....ie a set move to pull the heli out of a spiral toward the ground.

Good luck!

Rob
